Is this unreasonable? Does a dashboard matter that much?

£50 a month, are you sure though, that the other car won't cost you more in fuel, as this would cut that back a little? And if not, then that works out at £12 or so a week, which you could possibly save with the weekly shopping, for example on the downshift challenge? X

ETA we have a citroen C5 estate which fits 3 car seats in the back, no problem.

My OH needs a new company car. We have full choice of market but need something which fits 3 across back seat in car seats/boosters. He drives approx 50k miles a year so obviously spends alot of time in it.

Coz of company car tax etc. the emissions on it drastically effect the amount of tax we pay- we saved £150+ a month swapping from toyota verso to BMW 3 series- as we need to keep emissions low to avoid more tax we are limited.

The C max fits the bill perfectly but he 'hates' the inside and he 'can not' tolerate it. I am really angry as the one he wants is gonna cost £50 a month more- am I being unreasonable to expect him just to live with it- after all I have to make sacrifices to be able to afford the baby we're planning (getting rid of contact phone, not going to hair dressers etc.)

    Am I being unreasonable?

Yes - he needs to be in a car that he is comfortable in, and suits him as he will be doing 50k a year in it.
No, I don't think you are being unreasonable but then cars are a mystery to me but apparently are incredibly important to those who care. Like your husband. How about suggesting that the extra £50 a month comes out of his own personal spends rather than out of the household budget?

In answer to the question- what he really wants is another BMW but we can not get 2 car seats and a child in the middle in a 3 series. So we have discussed a s max, looked a double cab pick ups (but these are not gonna work for driving the miles he does) we are v limited unless its a MPV which will increase tax alot

Yes you can we had one.

Which BMW- we have the current 3 series tourer- we have 2 highback boosters in and can not get oldest child between them!!!
Obviously can't have oder one die to high milage

We dont pay the fuel as that is paid for by company- so no reduction there.
I agree we dont have yours and mine money but 50 quid is alot so it will effect me too

You might not, but the majority of people do. It amuses me to think that anyone who has a personal budget must be cheating. It definitely says a lot about your issues.

So £50 a month is more important to you than allowing your OH to earn that money in a comfortable way?

£50 a month. For 50k miles he spends 100 days a year in the car, 8 hours a day, driving.
If he's worth it can't you do a few more hours yourself?

I do think he's being unreasonable. I do about 35000 miles a year in my Focus estate and though it's not the sexiest car in the world, I realise I'm lucky to have a job let alone a job with a co car.

Don't take this personally, but this kind of attitude drives (no pun intended) absolutely mental! Lucky to have a job? No! The vast majority of people who have a job don't have it because they are lucky, they have it because they work hard and apply themselves. Luck has very little to do with it and to suggest otherwise belittles the amount of hard work done, and gives more excuses for people to not do as much.
