Wax 'bead's' can be bought at craft shop's,not sure of price any more, you need mould's or a lot of time to dip the wick in and out of warn wax, well venterlated kitchen because it will smell, but it's actually not that hard.

i have yet to find anything in Aldi that is consderably more expensive than Mr T or S, so im surprised at that. more often than not i find aldi is of a similar price to most other stores budget lines, but the quality is better

for those on the hunt for cheap cooking oil, Asda are selling what i would call drums of oil similar to used in catering at £16 for 15ltr

I think its just me that doesnt like our Aldi, I know some of the staples are a good price and I found some cat food that our ancient toothless cat loved but they don't stock it any more. I will give it another go :)

    Hi everyone,

I'm on page 55 at the mo, really interesting reading!

Thanks for the yoghurt recipe, going to have a go at that tomorrow. We eats lots of yoghurt so this will be ideal for me.

Mardartha all i can say is wow and how jealous am i, the pics of where you liee are amazing, i;m so not jealous ;).
Oh and cngrats on the new chickens! How did you persuade RV into getting them?

We're trying to simplify our lives so to speak. The past few years i've been growing our own veg in pots and a bit of mud, been successful so far. Have managed to keep us on salad leaves, raspberries and fresh tomatoes during the summer.

This year were expanding more, we have limited space, but its amazing what you cna do with a washing line. Last year i had tomatoes mixed up with the washing, should have seen the looks off the neighbours:rotfl:.

Just put a gooseberry plant in the front yard, and shock horror, its already starting to bud. I've managed to kill every other one we had:o. Just need to re-pot the rhubarb now, and hopefully we'll be sorted for fruit.

This month, i'm attempting to set us ll up so we don't have to go shopping for four weeks. Going to be so hard, but may as well have a go. Would love to have chickens but don't have the space for them :(.

Anyways i'm off to back read the thread.

Chickens arent the be-all and end-all of life. And cost money to set up. But the RV gets an awful lot of his own way..... and I was bored.... and I have wanted chickens since I was about 9.... and.., anyway I had a major tantrum :D:D:D

Morning all! Well I stocked up on the bread flour yesterday, dd1 and dd3 don't take any notice any more, think the woman at the checkout was amused though! Had a look for the big oil things Ginny, but the Asda near me is quite small, so will have a look next time I'm near a biggun! Thanks for the tip.

D&DD, I know what you mean about longer between offers, I generally stock up when beans, toms, oil, etc are on offer, and I do seem to be running very low now before the next round kicks in, so might just have to stock up a wee bit more! I am darned if I'm going to pay silly money unnecessarily!

ooh have you got them now then Mar? Hope to see some pics soon.I wish we still had the space for them I really miss them you know :o

I know you don't like Kale for yourself but if you can grow a couple of plants it's a really good cut and come again green for the chickens, mine used to love it and we used to cut some leaves and hang up in their pen every day. They don't eat the spines of the older tougher leaves, but they can just get chucked on the compo heap,so no waste :D

we are getting a new batch of hens next month hopefully, and have also been offered some quails

anyone have any tips on keeping quails? is there a demand for quails eggs, as we currently cant keep up with demand on hens eggs, hence the restock, so was wondering whether quails eggs also sell well at the gate, and prices?
