DH has just said to me that cooking oil always goes up in tandem with diesel because, as winchelsea rightly states, it can be used as a fuel.
I have to say that whenever it's on special offer I buy it for DH and he bungs it in his car. Our local garage had 1.5 litre bottles of sunflower oil reduced to 25p because they were on or just about to pass their sell by date and I bought all of them for that reason.
Very annoying when you want it for cooking though!0 -
re cooking oil I haven't bought any for around 2 years I'll probably have a panic attack when we need some :rotfl:
I had the heads up from another site regards to sugar, oil, wheat etc rising and bought in accordingly when it was on special offer.
Mardatha I think you'd love my civil war cookbook will post some of the more[STRIKE]stomach churning[/STRIKE] unusual recipes when I get time over the wkend.
I've also got a few turn of the century ones with some weird concoctions in I've been meaning to experiment with
Our fuel beep went today (means we have enough for around 40 miles left..not sure wether to fill up now or not its a bit like russian roulette atm0 -

Mr T sent me a set of four vouchers for £6 off a £30 spend. The first time I used one I got a till spit for £7 off a £50 spend. Next week my shop was over £50 because I decided to stock up a bit but I wasn't sure if it would accept both vouchers. Not only did it accept them but I got another till spit for £7 off a £50 spend.
Meanwhile I had to pop to Sainsbugs for something - spent about a fiver and got a till spit for £4 off a £40 spend. Back to Mr T's yesterday for the last week of my vouchers and did quite a big stock up of basics, focusing on BOGOfs and special offers. Used my £6 and £7 vouchers and then decided to see if it would take the Sainsbugs voucher as well - they often honour competitors' minimum spend vouchers. It did!!
So I got £54 worth of shopping for £37. And taking into account the BOGOFs it was actually nearer £60 worth.
And my larder is nicely stocked which will be helpful if the events in the Middle East cause a big spike in inflation
Oh and I also got a 5p per litre voucher for petrol as well. Mr T is usually a bit more expensive for petrol round us but this makes it about 3p per litre cheaperIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
JI dont find Aldi cheap for us
i have yet to find anything in Aldi that is consderably more expensive than Mr T or S, so im surprised at that. more often than not i find aldi is of a similar price to most other stores budget lines, but the quality is better
for those on the hunt for cheap cooking oil, Asda are selling what i would call drums of oil similar to used in catering at £16 for 15ltr

Well done Maryb! Mr T takes all competitors vouchers for money off a total spend, I know cos I work there! Sainsbugs often spits them out at the self service tills, often £3 off £20, so worth a look as you go by, as lots of people round here just leave them behind! If I need to bump up my shopping to use vouchers, I usually stock up on pet food or loo rolls, sometimes I wonder if people imagine I'm running an animal sanctuary or have severe stomach problems!
Petrol and cooking oil going up in tandem makes sense I guess, I'm sure I heard something about the amount of grain crops lost to production of oil and how it was affecting the third world ages ago, I thought that they mentioned something about subsidies being withdrawn because of it, or perhaps that was what campaigners wanted?
D&DD - I did stock up, though I think I should have done it on a grander scale possibly! Currently stocking up on bread flour as it's back to 50p and sugar, which seems to be on offer everywhere. Only thing is, with summer approaching and pesky ants, will need to ensure sugar is kept safely in big ol boxes, don't want an ant army marching through the house!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -

Bread flour was 50p in Tesco and Asda this week, considering it was £1.67 in Mr T's a couple of weeks ago, I thought it was well worth stocking up! Hope offer/price drop is still on!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000
