It is extremely complicated maryb :rotfl: I've had four ( no apologies to anyone :p) DH is rhesus positive but with negative attributes. I am negative all the way :D They took about an armful and legful of blood from me during my 3rd pregnancy because I was "interesting" and it would aid research. Admittedly, this was about the time Noah was escorting the animals off the ark :rotfl: I was stabbed and poked beyond belief. They kept saying " you could ensure the life of thousands of babies" and like a fool I accepted it :o Who knows how great my contribution was ;)

All I know is I'm grateful for the medical science that ensured I had four healthy babies. My mum was a midwife, knew too much, worried too much, but kept me in blissful ignorance :D

I'm the same churchmouse - mum was a midwife and I'm sure worried much more than me. I had a kidney infection and 2 false alarms just before DS was born. We stayed with my mum & dad for the week or so as i was really ill and had a toddler. Anyway, got up one morning and thought 'ah, I'm better'. waters broke immediately. I'm a great believer in nature giving you what you can cope with. Anyway, my mum couldn't get us off to the hospital quickly enough - 25 mile journey. I kept wanting to go to the loo and she was knocking on the door saying ' get out of there - you don't know how many 2nd babies have been born in toilets!' I am RH neg and first H was positive. My cousin worked in the blood dept at the hospital and was my first family visitor after each baby as she got my blood down for testing. yes, I got the jabs in the bum as both of mine are positive. Ah this brings back memories. Mum gone now, some years back, but this has made me smile!
  • Mardatha with regard to your interest in old ways of doing things, have you seen this website for children with a fascinating section on Historic cooking?

Can I ask how they dehydrated food in the middle ages - does anybody know ? Or how did they preserve fruit etc?

I know it's not exactly what you were asking, but my sister (who lives in New Zealand) sun-dries her tomatoes on the parcel shelf of her car and parks it in the full sunshine.

She says the temperature in there is astronomical and it works really well. It does make the car pong a bit though :D. HTH.

That might work on my livingroom windowsill, faces south and gets really hot. I will try it ! ta :)
  • Thanks NualaBuala and MeanMarie!! Will check those out (I use Drury St Asian mkt quite a bit but never saw it - now I know just to ask!).

Am off out now for a walk in the sunshine as it makes such a change to have sunshine on a day I can take a lunchbreak. Will probably end up buried in a bookshop though, as usual (W****stones is gone, but I usually go across the road anyway to HF and browse the gardening, DIY, crafting and cooking sections pretty thoroughly).

I keep meaning to go to the asian supermarket in Longsight but its chaos round there all the time so parking is difficult. I really must go and stock up, the rice is really cheap I noticed a sign saying BOGOFF on basmati.

Made ginger cake in the BM yesterday complete with sticky top to it, very moreish. I put the ingredients in the Bm pan and thought 'that looks as if there not enough mix and its very damp !' When I turned round and saw the flour was still in the scale I realised why -:rotfl:

Seedlings popping up well on the window ledges, must start second lot now to get my succession going - due to mini greenhouse blowing over last year I somewhat b**gered it up last year! So nice big paving stone in the bottom sorted that one out.
