Just been to local greengrocers as I am sick of the supermarkets. Got a huge bag of veg and Asian spices for 6 quid. Must make the effort to go there now. I asked the nice man if he could get me a job lot of cooking tomatoes for sauce and he is going to see whats at the market, if not he will let me have 12lb of Italian toms for 6 quid. ( I lost my pound sign in the last PC surgery!)

My Ds loves pink just confirming she was swopped at birth. I have a gothic cross tattoo on my arm - she has Betty Boop

I wish I could do local shops Ginny, I think its the way to go. Getting very edgey and nervous about these cuts coming and I will lose my DLA, that isnt much but it makes a huge difference to us. Without it we will just scrape along the bottom of life :)
OH wants try going back on the Bernstein diet as his diabetes is not as sorted as it once was. That gives me horrible probs because I NEED MY SUGAR!!! However really OS cooking will do if I just leave out the tatties. But it is not cheap eating...:(

Me too Mardatha, though we are hoping to keep our DLA. Dh is now a fruit addict, if he wasn't so ill he would be really really healthy :rotfl:As someone said on here pinching the pennies till they squeak!!! the rest of great Britain must be totally oblivious or living on credit? At least we know what we are doing but its small comfort.

And Im freezing here - going to put more woolies on and get knitting, Christmas is coming whether we like it or not:eek:

When he was first diagnosed, I read every book on the planet about diabetes. The one that jumped out at me was dr Bernstein, he is a diabetic who is now I think, in his 80s and doing fine... so I thought he was probly doing something right ! It got his BG numbers right down to normal but we think now he jumped into it too fast and he had a lot of probs, ended up in hosptial. He wants to try it again and so do I, because I'm not diabetic but I lost weight for the first time in 900 years on it !

Its low carb isnt it Mardatha? I lost 71/2 stone on Atkins 5 years ago and loved every minute of it, I could eat fried brekkie everyday, avacado and bacon salad and steak - yummy. I have put 2 stone back on but basically through being too housebound looking after Dh - my job was very physical and long long hours travelling on public transport all over North west - I am seriously thinking of trying to go back on it. After years of eating carefully, low fat this and that and not losing an ounce it was fab to be able to eat so much and the weight fall off me - I was very fit too running 4 miles a day, till the arthiritis got me

I lost about 4lbs, but thats great for me because my weight always stays steady. I didnt like that there was no desserts or puddings but then I can always cheat.... :D I was only on it for a fortnight or so though. I need to tak ehim back on it gradually cos last time we did it too suddenly and he was ill.

well removing anything from your diet needs to be done slowly. I got a whoopsied loaf this week that was wheat free and boy did I get a headache, I guessed quite quickly what had caused it cos I don't get headaches, just occasional migraines, so had some normal bread in between times cos the other stuff was too nice to chuck:rotfl:

I did it a bit my own way but still had great results and felt damn good after a few weeks. Now you know how to do his particular diet Im sure it will show results in his health.

Whoops - your thread coming up again Mardatha has reminded me - I'd better get going and prepare some fruit to go in my dehydrator before it goes off on me....

So - my new top of the range dehydrator is doing fine so far. Got told yesterday that my old dehydrator is "doing the rounds" - as its being lent around to people to try out dehydrating food whilst they decide whether to get one of their own. So - I said its okay if anyone wants to come round and have a look at my new one - so that they can see what "yer top of t'range" model looks like.
