I hope no-one minds me posting on this thread, but i have been addictively reading it for 2 nights and have only got to page 10!
I am a quick reader normally but have been reading every post properly as I love all the old style, savvy hints & tips
Me and my 10yr old have recently moved from Luton to South Wales and though I new it would be different, I didnt expect certain things to be so much harder ie the supermarkets are pretty far. Lidl (who do fab veggie offers) is my nearest one which takes about 30mins or more to walk to which is fine but not for the trip home when your struggling with bags.
Mr M's and Mr A are quite far from here, I got a bus from near home to Mr M's and it cost nearly £5 for mine and brats singles and cost me £8.50p for a taxi home! thats half my shopping budget gone with bus & taxi. Think I am going to have to do a home delivery shop next week when I get some pennies.
I have a really long garden now and would love to grow my own veggies and stuff, will have a look at that landsharing site as I wouldnt mind sharing the work and the produce with someone with know-how
Anyway im sorry to waffle on so much
I hope I can post more in the future am just a bit shy and dont want to post something that makes me look like an idiot
Thanks

Thank you for the welcome :j
I found a cassette tape that was mine when I was a kid, its a read-a-long but sadly the book went walkies long ago, but I loooooved it.
Anyway its got the date on of 1986 on it & I was born in 81 so its lasted quite a while!
Well Bratty asked to listen to it in bed and shes listened to it all and fallen asleep straight after.
Maybe im sad but it made me feel all warm and happy that that kid was me over 20yrs ago.
Now hows that tape for moneysaving? lolRecently moved to South Wales

Re the shopping ... I think if you can manage to shop online for non-perishables you will save time and money. I hate supermarkets - they are set up to make us ignore our lists and just spend, spend, spend. Their BOGOFs and special offers are not for our own good, they are to lure us in and make us feel we can afford to loosen our pursestrings and keep their profits high. So the more you can stay out of them the better! Better still, if you can afford to buy in bulk, then you will save on delivery costs. Then you could just top up on fresh stuff which hopefully wouldn't be so hard to carry. I don't drive so I know only too well what it's like lugging shopping home!
Ooh er, I seem to have got up on my soapbox again, I seem to have my preachy hat on today!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I don't think it's preaching when it's true Nuala, and it is true
I drive, but I no longer have a working car, so I know what it's like to have to hump shopping home too, but even when I had a car, I still did the bulk of my shopping online because it saved, and continues to save me money, for the very reasons Nuala has listed.
So once you're sorted with your money, and have a routine, I'd definitely give it a bash, as you're in total control of what you spend. If you have, say a £20 budget, just throw everything you want into your trolley, and then take out anything that you don't actually need, until it comes to £20.
I've only ever used A$da, but if you have a delivery with them after 1pm the charge is only £3, and if you have an 8hour delivery slot, it's only £2Aug11 £193.29/£240
