East Coast trains
London to Edinburgh is around £30 each way (though apparently tickets can be had as cheap as £12 each way... perhaps if you book really far in advance), and around a 4-1/2 hour journey.
thank you going off to look now......
£76.10 cheapest from where I am in London and still just under 6 hours.
Unfortunately I'm south east of where the main train departs, so extra traveling time and costs.
Never mind worth trying, will work on hubby for a summer visit;)0 -
Whilst I was sitting next to them (yes on the floor, don't ask me why) it suddenly dawned on my that I could store them under my kitchen units. The plinths just rest against the units so now just need to raid local shops for some low narrow boxes
Might be able to get the 50 loo rolls that have been in my car boot for months under there too.
Just been into my kitchen, got on my hands and knees and pulled one of the plinths away - and OMG! how many extra tins could you store under there eh? lol ......tell you what - it would also be a good place to hide Christmas prezzies too! No one would ever think to look there, would theyAug11 £193.29/£240

Hopefully it will be on iplayer, I love those sorts of programmes too.0 -

never thought of pressies, thats a good idea.:T
Chances of anyone else cleaning my kitchen floor is nil, so wouldn't even think to look anywhere near there.
Not only have I got my spare tins under, also got the loo rolls under and space to spare
If only my bath panel came off too :rotfl:0 -

I don't know about £12 each way, I think they were advertising that for London to Newcastle and on to Edinburgh might be a few quid more. But those ones do exist, I recently got two (one in each direction)*does victory dance*
To get such tickets, what you do is develop a slightly freakish obsession and stalk the train website for the very day the tickets are released (usually about 12 weeks in advance of travel date). This possibly may involve figuring out the tickets will be available on X day, and then maybe even just happening to be up and on the train website check fares page, just past the stroke of midnight so the tickets have been available for about a minute by the time you book it.
It isn't that bad really, I was up anyway... :rotfl:0 -

Unfortunately, in our house, the mice might! Tins should be Ok but not sure about loo rolls (in our house).Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0 -

Oh god no! Not if you've got mice! They'll think they've died and gone to heaven to a place where house owners provide ready made nesting material in bulk! :rotfl:Aug11 £193.29/£240

I would get mice in mine too. There are no backs to my kitchen base units, they back onto raw brickwork. Bloody council workmen!0

Saving every single penny.

Same here Mardatha. Builders didn't bother "finishing" plasterboard linings, skirting boards etc behind kitchen units so mice can get in from the cavity walls, well the gap between the original stone walls and the plasterboard linings that I never wanted in the first place - blimmin building regulations. And don't ask about the howling gale through the compulsory air vents and the fact that two of our upstairs windows have to be permanently locked/screwed shut so that no-one can fall out of them and the other two are designated fire escape windows so have to open wide enough for someone to fall (sorry, climb) out of them!Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0
