When he was first diagnosed, I read every book on the planet about diabetes. The one that jumped out at me was dr Bernstein, he is a diabetic who is now I think, in his 80s and doing fine... so I thought he was probly doing something right ! It got his BG numbers right down to normal but we think now he jumped into it too fast and he had a lot of probs, ended up in hosptial. He wants to try it again and so do I, because I'm not diabetic but I lost weight for the first time in 900 years on it !

Thanks for the info.:)I will try to get a copy as I am type 2 at the mo and I don't want to get worse.

So is he star, and he wants to stay off pills for as long as poss. What we did wrong was to suddenly and totally stop all carbs. It wasnt me (honest!) He's a very fussy Virgo and always liks things done "properly"...so he did it his way. And it all went dramatically to hell...he was very very ill and rushed into hosp. But for the fortnight we were on it, he lost a LOT of weight and so did I. Plus he finds that exercise gets his numbers down.
So we are going to try it again, but this time in my sensible, canny, Capricorn way ! LOL

Good morning all :) Its very quiet here at Chateau Ginnyknit, the last of my rescue guinea pigs died last week so just 2 rabbits left and the chickens have gone on holiday till the builders have finished. Ive had a productive weekend lots of baking and a big bowl of pickling onions soaking ready to bottle. Mr M has reduced the price of pickling vinegar to 1 pound from 1.49. the onions cost a quid so should get a good few jars from that. Am off to Mums tomorrow to stock up from Bolton market, apparently they had a full neck of lamb for 2 pounds last week but Mum had an appointment so couldn't get any, am hoping they have them tomorrow.

Going to pack as much of the kitchen away today as possible and Dh had the brainwave of putting the shelves from there into my store cupboard - won't need them in the new kitchen - then I can keep all my tins of flour in there instead of scrabbling in the bottom of the cupboard.

A friend gave me a dozen veg plants last week so just planted them out. mostly 'k' word and chard but I quite like them and anything will help over the winter to pad out meals ( if you like kale I know some people don't :rotfl:)

Anyway fortified with coffee cake I am off to start packing.

Oh and the chickens have gone to stay with a friend in the country, free range, lots of other girls, a stream and a very large fluffy cockerel - can't be bad eh?

Awww, sorry about your guinea pigs Ginny. At least your hens will be very happy from the sounds of it. Good luck packing and hope all the chaos is over and done with soon. Drooling at the thoughts of coffee cake.

We are discussing/having an Edinburgh OS meet on or near the 27th Nov, if anybody in here could come ? Might be able to get a cheap train ticket ?

£112 from London and a 6 hour journey each way!, cheaper and quicker to get to France from here.

One day I will get hubby to agree to a summer trip to Scotland, and try to tie that in with a meet up.

Did my big supermarket shop yesterday as hubby at home to carry the bags in from the car....I can never park near my home in this street and am fed up with lugging it myself during the week.

Very pleased as this is now 3 weeks between shops, now going to try not doing a big shop for 4 weeks.
This is definitely working out cheaper with me just buying bread/milk/fruit and veg at local shops. I spent £70 yesterday which is 2/3rds of what I would spend in a week a few years ago:eek:
They had lots of tins with dents in so I stocked up at :o
now have 10 tins of beans@ 15p each, 15 tins of toms @20p each you get the idea, but I have a tiny kitchen so now have several bags sitting on the floor.

Whilst I was sitting next to them (yes on the floor, don't ask me why) it suddenly dawned on my that I could store them under my kitchen units. The plinths just rest against the units so now just need to raid local shops for some low narrow boxes :D
Might be able to get the 50 loo rolls that have been in my car boot for months under there too.

Need to do some boring housework now :(

I am so tempted to see if I can get there, just to meet you Mardatha as much as anything!

Just been to Mr T's for cat food and had a whizz round - OMG bread flour was 59p or some such 2 weeks ago now 1.29 :eek::eek::eek: thats scary. Off to Lidl tiddle diddle (as my mum calls it) tomorrow to stock up. Sorted out the stock cupboard - it looks quite healthy and very very organised. Dh found about 5 yards of lovely blue fabric stuffed in the cupboard, heavy weight and pretty, can't remember what I gave it him for but its now in the washer to make a big playmat for DGS. What would we all do if we didnt utilise these things we pick up, wether its a few balls of wool or fabric??? I fondly remember our next door neighbour when I was little - Auntie Hilda - she was sooo old and spent her days making knickers out of fents (remnants from fashion industry) they were big pants all trimmed in lace and very comfy. I loved watching her sew and used to play with her cottons and lace. She made a bit of pin money and carried on well into her 80's, a typical little old chubby lady with a pinny on and her house smelled of stera milk and lavender :) Sorry feeling nostalgic for the good old days.

    Try here:

    East Coast trains

London to Edinburgh is around £30 each way (though apparently tickets can be had as cheap as £12 each way... perhaps if you book really far in advance), and around a 4-1/2 hour journey.

    :)
R.I.P. Bart. The best cat there ever was.

Just a reminder to anyone interested that Snowdonia 1890 is starting at 7.30pm on BBC1 Wales. Yay for Free to Air channels, I love these kind of programmes.
