do you really need to go abroad?

For me the advantage of going abroad is to go when it's cold here and very warm there, so I am exchanging bad weather for good

Can I remind you that the theme of this thread is about 'holidays'.

Can I remind you of your OP?

Since the government bail out, banks have grown richer and borrowers have remained reckless. The phrase 'moral hazard' comes to mind.

All of my contributions have been consistent with this.

Cold?! It's been boiling here in London for the past 10 days or so.

That's why I don't go on holiday during our summer, our long term plan is to spend Nov - April in Spain. Our first venture there will be this october for 3 weeks, so it's very early days, we may not like something about Spain. But I wouldn't have thought so as we have simple tastes and our main hobbies tend to be taking our dog for long walks, cycling and (me only) jogging with him, restaurants, swimming, tennis, chess and bowls.

I quite clearly don't want to nanny anybody. I want folks to look after themselves in such away that they don't have to come cap in hand immediately as soon as the SHTF..

But I bet you would like to make them do it if you could.

Must have a holiday? And then borrow on a credit card to fund it? no doubt they will be on here complaining about their stupendous debt when it all goes tits up and/or they lose their jobs or the mortgage goes up a few hundred quid.

Give me patience, food, shelter and clothes are essentials, holidays are not. You would have thought people would have learnt their lesson in the past 2 years wouldnt you? How much !!!! needs to hit the fan before you learn your lesson?

Unbelievable - except unfortunately its very believeable...

Accusations of nannying and tyranny. Someone must be challenging your view of the world.

How dare you presume to suggest that I desire the power to make people do anything. Quite the opposite is true. I don't want to be made to contribute to bailing out the f£ckless because I saved and I didn't get into debt. I have no desire to make anybody do anything, especially to take from the sagacious to protect the f£ckless. Your actions are your own, the consequences should be your own too.

I await the next juvenile assertion about my agenda...

Those of us with savings have our interest rates lowered to pay for other people's debts. My savings used to pay my rent, now they pay other people's mortgages.

In case you hadn't noticed interest rates have been reduced the world over to fight a global recession, not to pay other peoples mortgages.

    How adorably simple.
