The must have generation

We 'do' holidays, and lots of them! Well, not that many, just tend to be long haul adventures. This year we have had a cruise and are off to the Far East in October. BUT, we went for 20 years having cheap and cheerful holidays when the kids were young and money was tight and it has only been with family grown up and gone and working hard that we have been able to fund our excusions.
This is just what we choose to spend our surplus money on and I think it is absolutely ridiculous to hear that people take out loans and/or run up huge debts on cc's just to have a holiday. Too many people seem to think that holidays are a necessity rather than a luxury, but then,as OP put it, we are living in a 'must have' society.0 -

Chuck, again you have shocked me. Have you not read the forum rules!Posting is a privilege not a right. This is a privately owned site. Posting is a privilege, not a right. Rules are for the guidance of chuck and the obediance of macaque. However the mods just called and found I was wearing sandals (don't do slippers). Does the dog have the best bed/villa room, because he's more important in your household?
When the Bank of England was the regulator you used to have to take a minimum of 2 weeks off in a block each year if you were performing certain bank functions. The idea was in 2 weeks anything dodgy would start to unravel.0 -

I think the perception of a 'two week holiday' to get away from it all, is sadly drummed into Brits that it is your right after working hard all year.
It depends on the type of person you are, some people don't need the two week break and maybe go away for other bank holiday weekends throughout the year.
Putting it on the c/card seems foolish though, I always think the same when people are still paying off Xmas cards debts in the summer:eek:
I put away £20 a month into my holiday account, just £5 a week as does my boyfriend (he puts in double this) then when the time is right for us, summer, xmas whenever we pull the money out and go.
I've really enjoyed seeing some of the most beautiful parts of the UK over the last couple of years, our country is stunning and I've got some amazing deals on travelzoo and advice off here.
In fact, I'm going to Brighton for a fiver return on Saturday, thanks to Martin posting it on here http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/oyster-voucher0 -
Over here if you're still paying off the summer holiday next Christmas you really are in trouble!0

It's not a cruise it's a one day (about 24 hours) crossing on car ferry from Portsmouth to SantanderChuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0
