What's wrong with the mini breaks?

Think about how reliant the campsites, B and B, tea shops, craft shops etc are on us visiting then.

These little independent high streets need us and I for one think we are right to support them. I'd rather go to the coast and suppport an independent British business then go to Tescos and buy snacks for my flight on Easy Jet.

For some people visiting family isn't a holiday! Didn't think of that one did you! :-)

this has made me think - what is a holiday? is it just time off work? or do you have to go somewhere? officially it's sort of the former. which means even a weekend is a holiday. of course people feel responsiblities from other sources - housework, care of a relative / child. but for some even if they go away, they still end up doing the childcare / cooking etc. so is that really a holiday?

lets get the next generation ready for their life of austerity sooner rather than later.....they wont be able to pat a dog never mind give it a cruise.

I think the perception of a 'two week holiday' to get away from it all, is sadly drummed into Brits that it is your right after working hard all year.

It depends on the type of person you are, some people don't need the two week break and maybe go away for other bank holiday weekends throughout the year.

Putting it on the c/card seems foolish though, I always think the same when people are still paying off Xmas cards debts in the summer:eek:

I put away £20 a month into my holiday account, just £5 a week as does my boyfriend (he puts in double this) then when the time is right for us, summer, xmas whenever we pull the money out and go.

I've really enjoyed seeing some of the most beautiful parts of the UK over the last couple of years, our country is stunning and I've got some amazing deals on travelzoo and advice off here.

In fact, I'm going to Brighton for a fiver return on Saturday, thanks to Martin posting it on here http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/oyster-voucher
Not knocking you, but two items shouted out at me:
1] You have a bf subsidising you
2] You live in London and so have more deals available, especially Martin's one.

You'd not get far for £240 entirely on your own if you lived in the sticks. It'd cost me £200 by train just to get to London/back.

Over 10million Britons are a bit foolish then, if they are putting themselves in debt for a holiday. imo

Eventually it's pay back time. What happens then?
