My scales have borked up this morning. Getting an Err message on them. Will try to have a look at them later. I did step on them yesterday and will go with the +1lb. Which id probably less than I expected to gain. Even though I stepped on them at a different time of day etc. But we'll have to go with that for now :)

Well done on all the fab losses.

I have lost a measly 1/2 lb for goodness sake - but I guess that just goes to show me that I won't lose weight unless I try harder!! GRR  I dont know why I can't listen to my own advice/instincts and do this properly!

Started my little notebook up again where I keep a food diary/plan. Hopefully that will help push me a bit. Really just feeling a bit hopeless/worthless at the mo :(

Victory your mum makes me very cross indeed and I dont know why you haven't told her where to shove her comments! but I guess it's hard when it's your mum. But we all know, and you know, that you are working very hard to get into that bikini and you deserve to wear it and feel good. I would have told her by now that 'if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!' as lowering your self esteem is not going to help you in the short or long term.
I'm glad you felt that bit of confidence when you put the bikini on, don't let your mum or friends take that away.

Today back to 75.2 kg. Was stuck around the 75s for weeks and weeks and weeeeeks for most of the year. Was 74.6 kg this time last week. Have no idea why I'm finding it soooo hard to lose any more weight. I read the discussion on eating compulsions with interest, but that is not my problem. I have the ability to stop eating when I feel full, which many people can't do, having managed to over-ride the 'full' signals from stomach to brain.

Well, I didn't go to aqua-aerobics yesterday as I planned to. It was my 75th birthday, but we recently had some distressing news. DH's first cousin, who was his best man at our wedding in 2002 and who was like a brother to him when they were lads, has been diagnosed as suffering from acute myeloid leukaemia and is in hospital undergoing chemotherapy. Yesterday was Day 4 of a 6-month treatment. As it was an awful wet day I suggested going into London to see him - we'd never forgive ourselves if we hadn't been, and it was too late. So we did that. At least we felt we'd done something good.

I've been making the Irish soda bread I mentioned a week or two back - managed to get all the ingredients, buttermilk from Tesco and Jordan's oat bran from Waitrose. My second attempt turned out quite well. DH says the only problem is it is more-ish, but even so, we don't eat once we are full. I've just had one egg scrambled and 2 small slices of soda bread and couldn't possibly eat any more.

Just going to the gym now, then tomorrow, another private one-to-one swimming lesson. I had to decide what to do about the swimming, whether it was a big waste of time, money and effort i.e. I would never succeed in learning, or whether to go for the week's 'crash course' i.e. every evening, or whether to rejoin the adult beginners next term, or whether to try the one-to-one with a different teacher. I did that last week and felt I'd made more progress in half an hour than in weeks before. So I'm going again tomorrow for another half-hour one-to-one. I actually managed to 'doggy-paddle' across the pool lifting my head up to breathe. I've never done that in my life before!

  • always good to hear from you Margaret and you're and inspiration re the swimming and never being 'to old to learn' something new. I love inspirational people in their 70's+ - gives me great optimisism :D.

    sts for me peeps.

Sorry can't respond more at the more - bit too poorly. May feel better laters.

PS: eric - great stuff. Can't you remove the 4 x angry smilies in your siggie now? Coz they overwhelm any good news you share.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

happy birthday for yesterday margaretclaire, and so sorry to hear your bad news. Well done for going to see him, I'm sure he appreciated the visit.

Good to hear you are enjoying swimming. I am moving soon and as soon as we're settled I am going to find a pool and get back into it. It's so much more fun and satisfying than the boring gym. It must be hard to learn as an adult but good on you for sticking with it. It's a great way to exercise especially if you (like me) have bad joints as the water alleviates all the stresses that walking, sports etc, can put on you.

hope you're ok BB, feel better sooon *hugs*

You see on the beach in a bikini, me alone thinking I don´t look so bad but just got told to not wear the shorts because they don´t look right on me, they don´t suit me, I should go for a bigger baggier size, so the onslaught goes on.
Grrr! just when you build up some confidence, you get told a comment like that. If you feel ok in a bikini yourself then ignore all the other comments, they will only make your head spin if you keep listening to them. Believe in yourself and your own judgements.

But talking about beaches, I can't think for one moment why everybody stops and stares when I go for a dip in the sea. But I don't really care, if they dont like it they can lump it!
