Are you still in Spain Vic?

Ok Eric and Puddings - are you both with me to launch an invasion to sort out Vics mother?

I hope you feel better soon Vic - and that you're home soon if you're still away.

Puddings - how much did you lose in week 1 as I don't have it on the chart? Will add your loss for this week.

Cheer up Vic. You know that you have lost loads of weight and I guess that your Mum doesnt mean anything hurtful by it, all she needs is a new pair of spectacles (and maybe some guidance in diplomacy)!

FRED: Not sure cos I didnt get weighed at the start of week 1. All i know is that I was 10lbs lighter on July 30th than at my previous weigh in, eight months earlier on 4th december 2009 and week 2 was actually 9 days, so 2lbs is my first result for august anyway:-)

Evening all. I've been absent a few days, due to being hectic at home. Lots of planning for a friend's wedding, where OH was best man. We went yesterday, and I ended up having to be the official photographer at an hour's notice! Never done it before, and I don't even own a fancy camera, so borrowed the groom's Sony, and snapped away like a demon. Did some organised group shots, and definitely earned my supper. OH looked absolutely gorgeous in his suit, which we had a nightmare sorting out. M&S really did muck us about on that score, but we sorted it out ourselves in the end. I opted for linen trousers and a Per Una top, rather than a flouncy frock that made me look twice the size I am! I felt much comfier too, but still felt dressed up enough. OH complimented me a few times, and he even said again today how nice I looked, so that's boosted my confidence again, as well as having lost a couple of pounds again in the past weeks, it's funny how the head has to be right for this stuff.

Beanie - I'm sure your son will work things out OK. Did he put in lots of effort for his exams? My son's A'level results are due in the 19th, but I'm not holding my breath. I don't think he put in much effort for his exams, and was too focussed on his girlfriend's GCSE's, and her in general. It's not the end of the world, retakes can be done, and hopefully it's a good lesson in life, that you have to be focussed and work hard to get the result you want. Well done you though, for getting your OU results!

BB - very gentle hugs to you, and I do hope you begin to feel much better soon. You seem to soldier on so much of the time, and I know it's a constant, ongoing thing half the time, but it still doesn't seem bl00dy fair that you can't have the injection that makes you feel like jumping out of bed in the morning, because of another illness. I may even do a bit of 'grrrrr'-ing on your behalf.

Vix - hopefully you'll get your foot sorted out, and you do at least have a diagnosis now. I can understand how you feel a big harrumph about it, but heels are surely bad for you anyway. I've invariably gone for comfort, over vanity in most things I've worn.

Puds - I was thinking about what your dad said to you, and I get something similar from a friend of mine, who has weight issues. She positively attempts to engage me in over-eating when she's having a binge, as a means of making herself feel less guilty at the time I'm sure. If your dad were to agree with you that tackling your weight was a good thing, and to encourage you, then presumably it would be like admitting that how he is too could do with addressing. His denial works with getting you to be in denial too. His attitude now is that now he's 62, what's the point in him doing anything about it, and I bet he says he's perfectly happy as he is. And if that's true, then fine by him, but you clearly aren't happy with how you are, and you should be applauded and admired by him for doing something about that. At least you know that we, here, all know where you're coming from, and will celebrate your losses with you along the way, and encourage you to keep at it. You can do it, and we want you to!
As for the homemade bread, I make a 400g loaf for approx. 20p a time. There's no big hole in the bottom, as the blade is so thin. The fact that there's no nasty preservatives and additives in my bread, I can use wholewheat flour, olive oil instead of bad fats, less salt and only a teaspoon of sugar in a loaf (to activate the yeast). Yes I suppose slices are a bit thicker when you cut them yourself, but I tend to use one slice instead of 2 thin shop ones, and have an open sandwich, or for eggs on toast. Once tasted, you'll struggle to go back... I can't stand the processed bread anymore, it stinks of vinegar and feels so rubbery. My kids prefer homemade bread now too, so that's a vindication in itself. Why not look out for a 2nd hand breadmaker and give it a go?

    - I have no idea why you go visit your mother you know, except I guess it's the price you have to pay for cheap accommodation in Spain for a holiday! I could quite happily slap the woman.
It does seem to have shown how easily parents can affect how we all behave towards food though. I'm the same, and became a very overweight teen as a result of my parents' behaviour. It was my comfort, and reliable 'friend' for many years.

Mazza - If you're making another cake let me know, it might be the type of sponge, rather than the height. It all goes down the same way, regardless of whether it falls apart.

I made this one for my lad this week:

I didn't have any, that's how good I've tried to be. Was told it was scrummy though, and it was a new recipe where I used soured low fat cream in it for the sponge, and the ganache topping. Super easy to do, and little one loved it.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home

You're probably right sary, but I felt bad even making that one because i put milk chocolate on it. All my cakes are made totally milk free, then went and put the chocolate on it and he wasn't allowed to eat any of that. Still at least he enjoyed the cake. Your cake looks fab btw!!!!

Vix I have a friend with a nut allergy and it is so hard to make sure everything is clear! Glad he's ok, don't blame yourself.

Sary wow your cake looks fab!

Well done on your losses eric and puddings

Bad weekend for me again. I swear i'll only lose weight when I stop having such a good social life!
Friday was red wine followed by 2 rums. 2 ciders and 1 beer and an indian taskeaway on sat! It was spur of the moment as we were out with friends. sunday was a healthy lean pork stir fry followed with los of choc as we had rented a film! oh dear.....

Have decided I can't avoid seeing friends and eating out as it's part of the london lifestyle, so I am just going to try to be super good during the day to counteract it a bit, and try to hit the gym during the week too.

    Happy Monday peeps!! :D

Beanie - congrats on the OU result  I got my result at the end of last week and I got 81% in my exam which with my course average of 67% gets me a Grade 2 Pass - very very happy with that, all that revision paid off!! :j Onwards to year 3 (of 6) starting in October, lots of reading to do before then.

Sary - that cake looked fab, wish I could turn my hand to that sort of thing but although I can do dinners ok I'm rubbish when it comes to baking, so well done you!

Eric - well done on the loss, sounds like you're back on track so you must be feeling pleased with yourself.

Well my first week of my new exercise regime is going well (up early every morning for 30 min swim or 30 min jog on alternate days), though I had to cut my run short by 10 mins last Friday cos I was - ahem - caught short as it were and had to make a quick dash for home :o Only just got there in time.... Took some loo paper out with me this morning's run just in case but didn't need it thank goodness!! :rotfl:Don't know what effect exercising is having on my weight cos it's giving me a ravenous appetite and I've been eating like a pig, but OH remarked this morning that he can see the positive effect its having on me in that I am happy, bouncy and full of energy :D It may be the exercise endorphins doing the trick but I also think its because its precious "me time", something that I'm doing for myself, by myself, and at my own pace, so that makes me happy!:D My big FIVE-OH birthday is looming next year, I'm menopausal big time and have been suffering for some months so at this stage I'm more concerned with being healthy than anything else, and any weight loss will be a bonus.:)
