MommyChaos Welcome to the thread all very supportive here. I think we have people doing/done SW who may be able to help and on the health sub board in the moneysaving inmarriages and families section there are one or two SW threads I believe.

Right I am off for a run this evening and if I wake up stupidly early again tomorrow I may go and take advantage of the early opening times of the gym. Also got the 30 Day Shred fitness DVD but as I have a house guest this weekend I will start that on monday morning. My hope is that combined with running and following WW strictly will have a noticeable impact by the end of Aug.

Not sure what to do re WI during Aug - should really take my scales home but obviously using them on a different floor will have a huge impact (and also cba lugging them backwards and forwards) so am quite tempted to WI next Wed and then not again till 1 Sept, not sure if the not knowing would de motivate me.

Hi everyone - well done on the losses!

Pleased to say that my first week on weightwatchers has resulted in a 6lb loss - yipee! Next weigh in is on sunday and not too optimistic about that - went way over my points allowance on tuesday (though on relatively healthy foods lol). Didnt track my points at all yesterday, but since i gave into TOTM munchies and devoured a whole bag of haribo AND a giant bar of mint aero i think its safe to say that i may have gone over my points again lol

Think my biggest problem is trying to get into a good routine of eating - still finding that i dont have a proper breakfast, mine consists of a banana, cuppa tea and a fag! so that will be my challenge this week.

Gonna dust off my davina dvd and get started on that tomorrow too - hoping that may counterbalance some of my naughtiness and i will at least stay the same this sunday. watch this space...... :)

oh p.s. - welcome to all the recent joiners! and sign me up to the august challenge.

Vix I think it can be said of many places, that any preconceptions, are usually just that, and never like the reality. A bit like Eastenders is nothing like the real London (sorry to disappoint anyone!), which is far more multi-cultural, often more drab, and in places more vibrant, and the north isn't always grim, but can be stunningly beautiful. My suggestion would be to just get out there, and experience it for yourself.

Im surprised someone hasnt told me that Ireland is surrounded by water (which is wet, would you believe) with moving creatures called humans on it.

Thanks missy, Im still playing around with my heart rate at the gym. I managed to keep to the fat burn zone of 128bpm but as soon as i got on the cross trainer i went up to 156 roughly, and however slow i went i couldnt get it back to 128! Im trying to mix it up anyway to do a bit of both, but still, its quite an art to get your HR to stay the same! It also means when im on the treadmill i have to always grip the HR handles and that doesnt feel as good. Plus keeping to a HR of 128 makes it feel like im not doing anything.

thanks sary, but it was the marathon challenge that got me into this wobbly state in the first place, followed shortly afterwards by the twix challenge and finally the frys turkish delight challenge ;-)

this will give you a guide to what your HR should be based on your age and your exercise intensity

start of sensibly and build up slowly, and get checked out by a doc
thanks - that calculator gives me 91 to 109 per min, so if im on 50 beats in 15 seconds then its probably time to slow down. i probably score more than 109 just getting out of bed in the morning :-(

I wont overdo it, but did you have to mention the "d" word! last time i went to see my doctor a few years ago it was for psorisis and his advice, just like it is for everything that i have ever been to him about, was eat less and exercise more, obviously nothing to do with a skin condition!
Theres also a new appointment system in place since the last time i been, so as well as needing the secret handshake and password to get past the [STRIKE]rottweiler[/STRIKE]
receptionist, patients have to call the surgery at 8am if they want an appointment for that day : dozens and dozens of people all trying to get through to the same line at the same time: to get an appointment im def gonna need some equipment:a rabbits foot, maybe two or better still four (can then be still attached to said rabbit),a black cat (will catnap the neighbours, remembering to keep well away from the rabbit) possibly a shamrock i think there might be one on the top of a nice pint of guinness and lucky heather (neighbour is called heather, i guess she'll come round eventually asking what ive done with her missing cat)
I know in all seriousness that its better to be safe than sorry and should get checked out first therefore will do whatever's needed to get an appointment with my gp in the next few days.

Lauraland: 6lbs is amazing , well done :-)

The north has often been rather grim when I've been up there, in all honesty, but there are some gorgeous bits... usually outside the cities, but Harrogate and York are quite nice, and the lake district is stunning. There's plenty of grim southern bits too tho... I lived in one of the grim towns for years. Am now in the middle of nowhere, and it's OK I guess.

Worrying that my attempt to put in a different perspective here, on behalf of margaretclare, was taken as being somewhat facetious. Ah well, you can but try.

Still offering to pass on my throat infection to any would-be weightloss enthusiasts, as it's making eating nigh on impossible. Have so far managed a bowl of soup, a muller yogurt, tiny portion of spaghetti and some strawberries/banana & cream. Sucked on a few throat sweets, and no bloke has come along to kiss my throat better... demanding a refund from Sainsburys tomorrow methinks.
