My card has been cloned and lots of money has been taken out of my account, I am beside myself

I had the same thing a year or two ago. I noticed it at about 11pm as I was about to go to bed, and checked my account online. I spent the next couple of hours trying to ring my bank, and was stunned that their 24hr line didn't incorporate their fraud dept. Like fraud only happens between 9-5! Anyway, I could prove I had to sign a form from the bank to say I hadn't made the withdrawals (they were withdrawing $500 p/day in Australia for nearly 2 weeks!!). I don't even have a valid passport, so couldn't have gone anywhere at the time.

Don't panic, it happens loads. The reason I'd not noticed the withdrawals sooner are that it was taking the money from an account I didn't normally use as a spending account (it was a credit card), and had only used twice in the previous year. One of them was at a Shell petrol station, which were in the news for having a cloning system in lots of their stations nationwide.

What have your bank advised you so far?

i have been reading this thread on and off for some time and just thought i would let you all know what i have done.

I have lost over a stone in the last 10 weeks or so. I have not been following any set diet as such, but have kept an eye on what i have been eating.

The thing i found most helpful however, was keeping check of my portion sizes. Having been brought up not to leave any food on my plate, a habit i have had trouble getting out of, i bought a smaller plate (can't put as much on it...obviously) and also asked my wife to give me less, (if atfter eating i want more i can then go and get more).

I have to also say i have had great support and encouragement from everyone who knew i was losing weight.

    Sy..
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow.. :p

They are going to send me a form from the dispute department for the blizzard website they took out money from there for war games, there are 2 loans on my house out and so far they have offered me ID fraud for the month to protect me, cancelled the card, sending out a new one, I have no idea if it was cloned online, in a shop, how this happened nothing

  • Fellpony - fantastic news, hope it continues to go well

mazza - good luck at work today, but how can they give you a warning for being signed off sick?

syman - welcome & well done with the weight loss so far

victory - yep, been there, done that, loads of people have. First I heard about my card being cloned was a call from my bank, someone in India had made a cash withdrawl on my card (just a small amount, about £50) on the same day as I'd made a UK transaction. I put it down to a dodgy petrol station near to where I worked at the time, it was the only purchase that was outside of my normal "routine"; I didn't usually use them cos they were pricey but I was desperate for petrol leaving work one night so just got £20-worth, I noticed the back of the PIN machine wasn't covered up but didn't think to hide the pad as I entered my PIN. The bank refunded the money & issued a new card and called me for about 2 weeks afterwards every time I used it just to check that the transaction was valid  - bit if a pain but I'd rather they over-did the caution than not  About 2 weeks later exactly the same thing happened to a colleague who had used the same petrol station - he reported our suspicions to his bank but they said that cloning takes weeks to be effective, not days. Hope you get it all sorted, sounds like the bank are on the case.

Ever since then I've been paranoid about people not seeing me type in my PIN, I will go to great lengths to cover the pad as I'm typing, I don't care how stupid I look, better safe than sorry.

I started a 5-day detox yesterday which means no caffeine, no milk, no sugar (including fruit), no dairy (apart from natural live yoghurt), no alcohol, no carbs (apart from 50g of brown rice per day), and no potatoes or mushrooms. I've lost 3lbs since yesterday but tho' thats good I'm not expecting that kind of change every day. I just need to get my insulin under control again and kick all the cravings for processed food I've been having lately which have caused me to eat for my country for the last few weeks :D Last night I felt very tired and a bit head-achy, probably withdrawl symptoms, but today I feel okay and not hungry at all. Hope I can last till the weekend :D

Sorry to hear about the fruad victory. A few years ago several thousand pounds were taken out of mine and then my husband's cash ISA accounts by fraud. We got it all back. It's hassle but it does sort out in the end.

2.4 lbs off for me this week.

Had a rubbish time shopping yesterday. Having lost 29lbs i would have hoped that I could go shopping and buy some clothes that look half decent but when I look in the mirror I look larger than I thought I actually was when I started. It was a bit of an eric moment in that it saddens me and horrifies me at the same time in the reality of the size I must have been 29 lbs ago! Not good. Anyway, I guess my current size is only an interim stage until I get where I am heading but still carp!!!!

Thanks;) it will all come good in the end, I feel violated, buying off the internet is def not completely safe as I have my card here with me, so thank goodness I check online banking daily, hopefully the internet fraud is the only thing, that they have not sold my personal details etc that is why I have paid for a credit report back from the age of 18 to present day, the lady on the phone laughed and said it would be as heavy as a book:rotfl::rotfl: I have rang absolutely everyone and done the right things now they need to deal with it and I need to be patient so they can sort it out for me:D

Hezza - Royal Mail's policy. First you get a stage one warning, triggered after 4 separate absences or 7 days off sick in a year. 2nd stage you're only allowed 7 days in 6 months, or something like that. So in theory, my knee should trigger a stage 2 as I had swine flu last year (that I worked thru!) and a couple of other illnesses. Didn't get the warning today, but have told them that I am looking for something else as I don't think my knee is going to hold up on the duties as they are atm. The duties are all about to change and we're going to have a van share. Which should mean less weight on the shoulders whilst delivering. Which I probably could manage :) However, they have suggested medical retirement, which sounds about the best option for me :) So have said I'll consider it, and speak it over with the family. Think I may go down that road and if another job crops up before the medical retirement happens, then so be it. Also had a good chat with manager about you know who and all seems pretty cool on that front :)

Anyhoo, as i said, I will talk it over with friends and family tonight and get their input, of course any thoughts you guys have would be welcome too :)

    Sounds really fab BB :)
Any particular reason or just because its yummy?
    How ya doing anyway?
    Hoping loads better xx
Feverishness caused by the meds has gone beanie, which is great, but unfortunately the new medication isn't working as it should (so far) and I have very bad psoriais that is increasingly making me feel very poorly. It usually deteriorates to the point where it virtually cripples me to be honest, as I lose so much normal skin. I'm about half way there at the moment.
I also have the psoriatic arthritis that goes with it sometimes: mine was triggered but the last disasterous med change. The meds are easing the arthritis though, hurah.
So 2 weeks ago i started a strict elimination / raw veg smoothie diet to see if I can help my skin at all (a very small % of people it appears do find this helps so worth a shot).
I have also cut out all wheat and gluten, dairy, added sugar and nightshade family (potatoes, tomatoes, aubergines, peppers) and take anumber of specific vits and minerals each day.
It could take several months before I see any benefit (if I see one at all) so I have to remain very focussed.

To my astonishment , I haven't lost any weight on this after 2 weeks. Unbelievable but true: i can only think this must have something to do with the meds too.
Not noticing any benefts yet Sary - but it is early days. I know it must be good for me as it is so heathly. But whether it can solve my health issues, who knows.

Victory - can't believe that has happened to you: you get all the ebay hassle too!

Sorry to hear you at a low point re job Mazza, tho glad today's convo at work went ok. What does medical retirement mean: do you get a pay out? Whatis cross making is that if they had looked after you a bit better it mightn't have needed to come to this:mad:
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Yes bb, it would mean a small pay off, have only been there for 3-4 yrs so won't be a lot, unless I get another job first. But it's still looking like the best option for me atm.
