Now I'm going to confuse everyone but me by answering in the wrong order, sorry.Hope your Ma is okay...
Definitely better than yesterday, thanks. Plus she has the antibiotics now which is great.
Clothes shop interview went fair to middling. Have emailed you miggy. Phone shop is doing my head in and I haven't even got a job there yet!!!!.....
Supposed (according to research) to email before today with details of something to prepare for phone interview. No email. No phone call by 12.50pm so phoned them. Said they'd phone back in 1-2 hours. Got inpatient. Phoned at 2.25pm. Said the girl who was handling my application was not in today and to phone back tomorrow at 10am. Will phone back tomorrow (on the dot!!!) but only for closure.
Makes you question whether anyone would be wise to work there, doesn't it?!
The clothes shop is massive - way bigger than I thought and looks really fab and the staff are really nice. Also I get good perks as well even though it's just minimum wage but still. Don't know if I get out of decent time allowance for working late on a Thursday. Didn't get chance to ask
They might have bags... BAGS!Hope you get it!

I will have to ask Erme for fashion tips for superheroes... Love the image - that'll scare 'em!Miggy

VERY..................................
Only if you are committed to the weekly bake. It's well worth it.
Mine is taking over... first two batches still not quite eaten (but they were rather large) and there is now enough mixture for at least three or four more. :eek:I think she is more wonderful than she gives herself credit for
Sending you virtual ginger bread for that.Miggy

I am supposed to be busy today as we have guests coming to tea and my helpers have deserted me. (two at work, one of hols, one apparently in the bath but I know not to ask him - if he helps it will be because it's suddenly occurred to him that otherwise guests will get mess...
I woke up with a thick head, which I thought was eye strain but several hours and a paracetamol later it's much the same. Then I had my piano lesson which was pretty dire as I found I couldn't work out minor keys from corresponding majors (I had that off pat a few weeks ago!) and I hadn't played for a week apart from briefly yesterday - disasterous! Plus the head of course... but even I play better with a head than without...
The cleaning and tidying for guests has turned out to be a big job. I think I suspected that before I even started. I am going to put the lounge to rights, dump papers on our bed and go out to buy the food. Just hoping I can focus and get those essentials done.Miggy

Get well soon Miggy. A thick, heavy head puts me at a standstill so I'm really admiring your determination and how much you're getting done.0

Thank you Muffy.
Mysteriously, the head cleared as time went on, DS2 helped me tidy up, dinner got cooked and we had a really nice evening, helped by getting out the old calendars which have the kids' funny sayings on them. DS1's g/f had a lot of fun catching up! I do feel a bit bad because I didn't pass them round to the other people who were visiting but really I didn't feel it was their business, and one of them does tend to make fun and not realise it may not be going down well. The boys loved it though, especially DS2 who seems to have caused an unprecedented amount of hilarity in the dim and distant past.
Mum's doctor has visited her and diagnosed bronchitis (which I pretty well knew anyway) and they're keeping the same regime of treatment. My worry levels have gone right down again, though I did wonder what it was about when the Home rang to tell me.
Money-wise, the food budget is under strain from two expensive days. Time to be creative again.
DS2 is thinking about home brewing. Will that keep him out of mischief, I ask myself. I'm not likely to find out as he can't afford it.Miggy

I have just realised that far too much of the day is passing by without me doing anything - and it's payday too which means it's time to check the bank. From this month for the 'foreseeable future' (advisedly in inverted commas as things never stay the same for very long) there won't be a lot of extra hours.
We had more heavy rain early on but it's clearing up so I shall spend a bit of time in the garden and put dinner 'ready to roll' before I go to see Mum. Dinner is leftovers but quite nice ones! Left overs make the best food. Some roast chicken from Sunday in pasta with left over roast veg and red pesto. Nom, nom.

A moment of excitement - I finally got money back off the Asda 10% cheaper thingy! 86p.
However, nectarines for 11p and salad for 19p (saving £2.45) was pretty good.
The pasta dish made of the rest of yesterday's meal actually proved very popular so it could be false economy if it gives us all a taste for red pesto - worse still, I decided it needed smoked sausage and mushrooms next time...Miggy

Mushroom porridge?
Ah - mushrooms with stem ginger!
See? I'm getting the idea.
And today has been... weird, weather-wise. Warm, incredibly humid and a restless wind like the equinox. I don't know when I've known the like of it. DH took me out for lunchwhich was nice, though I think the cafe could have done better. Two staff in total - apparently that's all the management will employ, but it's counter-productive because with one more person on over lunch they could have had a decent speed of service and a cleaner room and I might be more inclined to go back. The employees worked hard and were pleasant but there's only so much they could do.
I popped into @sda afterwards and managed to get cappuccino sachets half price and what's more I could justify it because I'd had a coffee at home and didn't get a drink with lunch, and a packet of 10 cappuccinos was half the price of one in the cafe.Oh, I like this money-saving lark - nine free coffees!
I also got chicken dippers for the boys (£1 off) and 15 eggs for £1, though I felt a bit guilty as the chickens had been caged.
Coming out of @sda, the humidity was very noticeable.
The afternoon got muggier and muggier: DH came home from work feeling asthmatic and I was opening windows everywhere to get some air through (DS2 said it was cold). I baked two lots of the yeast cake (it's still winning but now by 2:1 not 4:1). Today was another batch of sultana and mixed spice and an experimental banana, raisins and orange flavouring. The pressure's onto cook the lot but I've said I'll freeze a batch of mixture to use in the future.
At tea time we had the most tremendous downpour and the news - when it worked - showed other areas much worse off. Belfast seems to have turned red underfoot following flooding, and a man has drowned in Shropshire after getting out of his car in a flood.
The rain has cleared the air and DH and I had a short walk in celebration of it! Much fresher.
I'm at work tonight and tomorrow night so I shall soon have to go and get into work clothes which is a shame as it's too hot. I will be good and take some salad, er... as well as some of today's baking.Miggy

Ah - point taken, maybe not, especially since i have syrup to have with my porridge. Naughty but nice.I popped into @sda afterwards and managed to get cappuccino sachets half price and what's more I could justify it because I'd had a coffee at home and didn't get a drink with lunch, and a packet of 10 cappuccinos was half the price of one in the cafe.Oh, I like this money-saving lark - nine free coffees!
