Interesting discussion re Sabbath keeping Miggy :)

I'm not a 7th day (more a wee wee free) and I try and keep the Sabbath...

    Technically this means
    • no internet
    • No phone bar health emergencies
    • no txting
    • All food prep to be done the day before
    • Kirk x 2
    • Reading in the afternoon
    • No tv/radio (non pre recorded so we're allowed to listen to pre downloaded sermons on the pc
    • No shopping
    • No public transport (or even buying petrol)

Don't do lent self....don't do easter and xmas LOL...pagan they be ;)

Basically Sabbath is a day for my soul..Of course as you can see I break it on multiple counts. It's more than a simple day of rest. More a day of rest from the things of the world and a day for my soul. I enjoy the reading. I couldn't do it for years but now I really enjoy it. I like the puritans :D. alot of them are free to download.

Anyhow (don't know if I emailed this to you) I got a kenwood chef KM201 off the charity shop yesterday with K beater and whisk for £24 :j :j :j...couldn't afford it but had to nab a bargain :D. Made the most amazing meringues in it yesterday. Can't get the nob nearest the narrow end to work and haven't checked the end cap (only took it off last night - figured that out and saw a load of oil coming out of it)...whisk just needs hot water to clean it after...sorted.

Of course the nurses on B ward got the meringues. PG I had just enough icing sugar left. Downloaded the instructions (And a huge recipe book for it) from some site I can't recall what.....for 50p - sorted :) and it's all in MS....(stewart) so should be good

Did you realise that in the seventies they had a can opener and a pea huller for it? wow.....

Looking forward to mashing tatties in it another day. Need slicer and like juicer so I can put current worktop stuff in the cupboard (no room for food processor and juicer on there) but they are £80 each. Unless the food processor will go where the popcorn maker currently is LOL.

Volunteering going fab though 0 make it on Friday. Was too tired

    Update

Shifted popcorn maker (gotten on a whim real cheap) so juicer has gone there....KC is on worktop and there's just enough room next to it for my Magimix (it's a le mini plus :j otherwise there wouldn't be room )...

So tomorrow....Sort out kitchen and take like ice cream maker and popcorn maker down to charity shop...

Ordered my dough hook (original) for like £13 or something inc p+p off ebay....it was £16 on the other site and potentially a 28 day wait  so yeah - sorted.....

Everything in my Martha stewart/BHG cookbooks is made with mixers and food processors...Bring on the baking :j :j :j

Wow Erme, you lucky thing! I was ogling one of those on QVC - all singing, all dancing and a pound short of £400. Serves me right for watching. ;)

I do nearly everything by hand :D lack of space and money. ;)

Thanks for the explanation re the Sabbath. I feel sad that society as a whole no longer has this complete day off - we are driven harder than our ancestors in that respect, and of course it makes it harder for some people to observe a day for worship even though they would want to. Of course my job involves some Sunday shifts but I don't have a problem with this as it's essential (I work with people who need 24 hours support) and I do get plenty of time off in between.

Just had a thought - would I be more organised if I were stricter about having a Sabbath? Preparing food the day before etc? Of course it gets tricky about where to draw the lines - a Monday paper has involved work on Sunday for someone and switching a light on means the people at the electricity company are working.

Anyway, I meant to say - nice to hear from you! I had noticed all had gone quiet for a few days but my head's in work mode so I hadn't thought how long - hope all's well?

Money-wise... £15 spent yesterday on a meal out with friends but I was fairly good with the calories (Lent is doing me good in that respect! :) ).

I also spent £5 on a top - in the sale so another £5 saved to add to my signature. I really liked another too but put it back - would like to add the fiver that would have cost but if I got five pounds every time I resisted temptation...!

I've been juggling the bank balances in my mind and can't find a way to transfer enough to the new account to qualify for the fiver this month - but that's not really a loss as I didn't expect to.

I meant to say - we had a huge milk bill this week which almost wiped out the 'underspend' jar. We've only just stayed within the food budget because of it but at least between that and the bread (another £2.50 saved there to add to the total), we have used up some of the stuff that needed using up.

I forgot to say I complained about ice cream and got a £5 voucher to spend on ice cream on Friday :j...

I enjoyed my ice cream...Alas it's all gone and it's going back to 'normal rip off' price tomorrow so like won't be buying anymore (it was in little pots and they'll come in handy)

Miggy if you're desperate for a kenwood chef check out ebay...you can often get them for less than £100 :j...or get an andrew james or a bosch off amazon...

Monday weigh-in for Mr B's challenge and I'm down to 143lbs. :) That's only a 1lb down but headed in the right direction thanks to Lent!
