As of last night, we have a working sink again, albeit with a slow leak in a pipe joint for which we need to find some sealant. We didn't find any more blockages so I assume there was an airlock. That's all I can think of.
Now that the sink is usable I've coloured my hair - good for the psyche at least! I wish visits to the hairdresser were a pound a go, and I would have the most gorgeous hair...As it is, they aren't and I'm very loathe to allow other people's scissors near my hair, so what a lot of money I've saved.
Today is my last full day off before a run of nights and our days away next week so I have just made a start on the laundry, despite the rain. I know there's now an official drought down south and it's pretty dry up here so I've started being 'good' with the water - emptying hot water bottles onto the garden is a favourite of mine. That reminds me - I also need to start feeding the pot plants (and no, we aren't doing drugs) and give some serious thought to growing veg. The slugs eat mine before it gets anywhere despite us having frogs and toads in the garden - I ought to go back the the gardening thread at some point for help.
Here's the list of things to do before plunging back into work tomorrow night.- hand-washing
- ironing
- [STRIKE]shopping [/STRIKE](liver and bacon fry-up again tonight - cheap and fabulous!)
- [STRIKE]check if there's any baking to do[/STRIKE] - the bread I made the other day is nearly gone. BAKING DONE
- [STRIKE]vacuum[/STRIKE]
- feed plants
- Send off 2 cheques
- photocopy instructions for Mum's cleaner re gadget
- post parcels
- clean fridge
- chase up DD's missing parcel
- [STRIKE]recycle newspapers[/STRIKE]
-
do online banking

Woooh, that's a lot to get done before the work plunge. Good luck with getting it all done. It's made me tired just looking at the list
I've got that after lunch feeling now - obviously.
I'm a bit loathe to pay out for my hair, but after not getting anything done in over 6 months I've succumbed and am getting it cut and coloured over the next couple of days - in different salons to get the best price for each!
A fresh hair colour is such a boost, isn't it?
Oh and yes, let's push each other along to lose weight initially down to that final 10 pounds! I won't start anything until next week as I don't want to diet while away and bringing cake in tomorrow but after that it's full steam ahead?0 -
Woohoo - the post just brought my payslip which is looking healthy!
I've just had a thought - although the new bank account was set up too late for this set of wages to go in this month, if I'm on the ball I could transfer manually and get the £5 for paying a minimum through! Possibly... well, we'll see.
There was also an invitation to a College reunion but it looks like clashing with something else - shame.
An invitation to take out some financing deal - no thanks!
And (little mini drum roll please) my new bank card, which I can't use till the PIN comes through.
What's more I've already recycled all the envelopes and signed the card.Miggy

Sorry about that! I don't think I'll get everything done - i never do - but it will help keep me on track.I've got that after lunch feeling now - obviously.I'm a bit loathe to pay out for my hair, but after not getting anything done in over 6 months I've succumbed and am getting it cut and coloured over the next couple of days - in different salons to get the best price for each!

Good for you.I always feel better when it's just done.

You're on! I've given up various things for Lent (cake, puddings and sweets) which will be difficult but Lent's only 40 days... though I've said I'll go out for a meal with friends this weekend so that will make the desserts bit tricky. We were discussing Lent the other day though and I said I might be giving up puds, so they won't be too surprised if I just have coffee.
The other difficulty is that there are at least 3 birthdays in Lent so I think I will need to make an exception to the cake rule just for birthdays.Miggy

Argh! Spent AGES searching through my inbox for the details needed to return this parcel (tried the 'search' facility but 'Next' isn't a good search term, LOL).
All that's come of it is a trashing of emails I didn't want. I'm wondering if I deleted it by accident as there's no trace.
Giving up for now and off to get the ingredients for dinner.Miggy

I'm not sure I should be saying this but Lent isn't 40 days as such. It's 40 days not including Sundays, so it works out around 46 days in total. This doesn't mean you take Sundays off and can eat what you want, it means that as Sunday is the Sabbath you're meant to refrain from these luxuries anyway. I'm sure you know that Miggy, I just felt the need to write it down in case anyone else was reading who had decided to practice Lent this year.
So, I'll storm your diary next week and in the meantime we both need to come up with our weightloss plan with goals and maybe one day a week we pm each other our weightloss? I don't need you to tell me what you weigh now, just how much you've lost from your starting point.
I can do my initial weigh in on Tuesday, so would it suit you to list Tuesdays as weigh in pm or would you like to specify another day?0 -

- I think where people are strict about the Sabbath, they might decide not to prepare food on that day (one of my Grandparents was a Seventh Day Adventist and she used to prepare on the previous day so they could have a cold meal) but meat and so on are allowed - hence Sunday roasts. I tried googling it to see what the mighty web says but it kept assuming I was asking about Judaism so if you can find anything different I'm open to correction.

I've knocked a couple more items off yesterday's list... so many seemingly-straightforward jobs have spin-offs that take up time.
The online banking brings good and not-so-good news - the £100 from the bank for the new bank account has arrived - yay! I'll add it to my sig in a minute. On the other hand, there's not a lot of maneuvering space in our main account as I transferred as little as possible from savings to pay for the new window the other week. Will have to be very good till Monday or transfer a bit more across, which might be wiser as my pay goes in on Monday but I want to be able to pay it out again to the new account and DH's doesn't come in to cover that account till later in the week. I'm going to have to think about that - maybe a bit of fancy to-ing and fro-ing is called for but I'm new to one account and don't really know my way around the system yet.
On a MS note, while it's so mild, the heating is turned down somewhat (it's not been really hot all winter due to inadequacies of one of the heaters).
I have a pile of paperwork on the table which I'm slowly finding my way through, must visit Mum too and make some bread. There's a load of washing on the line, some of the dry laundry has been put away, the dishwasher has run (not yet unpacked) and ingredients for dinner are defrosting. I've had a hairbrush and makeup sponge-washing session so I feel virtuous.
I must also pack my work bag sooner or later. What's marvellous is that I'm no longer avoiding doing that but can do it easrly and actually quite enjoy it - possibly because it's got treats in, like cappuccino sachets and sudukos!I hasten to add I need to take my NVQ stuff too and get on with that at some point.
Time I went and did some more about something.Miggy

A very busy afternoon and all that's done from the list is the baking - four large buns and a big loaf of malted wholemeal - mmm!
The pie is made and ready to cook - need to email instructions to DH if I'm still to fit in the promised visit to Mum.
Oven and microwave have been cleaned out, as have some oven tins that needed it - yucky but necessary and at least it's done. The third load of washing is on the line, the first is put away and the dishwasher's been emptied.
I've had a yogurt which doesn't count as cleaning the fridge but makes a bit more space. Now I need to go and change as I got messy with cleaning (never think of an apron till too late).
The paperwork and cheques will have to wait - except one which I will post on my way through. I'm going to add £1.30 to my signature for baking because I paid for the ingredients long ago and it saves buying a loaf of bread. Also £4.90 saved in trawling the supermarkets yesterday. Total of £105.20 to add to the signature today which is an all-time record for me and not likely to be repeated any time soon!Miggy

Not quite an NSD today - spent 59p on apples for DH at some unearthly hour this morning.
I've made more bread too - will eventually get up to date with those mixes!
Off to work soon.Miggy
