Britain's Worst Company

  • For two years after moving into my flat I was hounded and harassed by British Gas because of an outstanding bill for £6.00 that belonged to the person who lived here before me. Despite ringing them weekly and being promised that it would be ok, I received weekly threatening letters from bailiffs, debt recovery agencies and BG threatening to come and remove my property, this only ended after I enlisted the services of my own solicitor to put an end to this. Two years! How c**p do you have to be, and how stupid. I even gave them the previous tenant's phone number and address at the beginning, I even phoned her myself to sort it out, and nothing happened.

Then there is British Airways. My brother died very unexpectedly a couple of years back and I had to fly to South Africa the very next day and was looking for flights. British Airways wanted to charge me £1 500 per ticket, I was flying with my sister who was also here at the time. I tried to explain that I wasn't flying home overnight because I couldn't think of anything better to do, but that it was an emergency, they weren't interested. I managed to find flights with Virgin for the next morning that cost me £ 500 each. I could not believe that British Airways would sink so low as to take advantage of a person clearly in distress, and have never ever flown anywhere with them ever again!

    Ok rant over!

British Gas has got to be Number 1 for me

I have been trying to pay a DD since last November & have been told so far that Bank Account details are wrong! use the last Final warning letter as a dart Board! don't worry everything is now sorted! and last week received a Final RED warning letter & sending me to Court.

For GS all I want to do is pay by DD every month!!!!!!!!!!!!

I now have a name & an EXTENSION NUMBER !!!!! for the last person I spoke to, she has promised to put me in her Diary so that she can check if my DD has goes out on the 7th May.................dont hold your breath that this will actually happen.

Three- incompetent India call centre staff who only deal with you properly when you get an OFCOM number. British staff pass you to the India staff to get rid of you then the India staff try and threaten you if they can.

Talk Talk- incompetent British call centre staff who cannot enter addresses properly and don't reply to letters. Again they only deal properly with you once you get an OFCOM number worst of all they have a special line for OFCOM complaints.

BT-staff (India and UK) scared that you will complain about something when you ask their name. Have made a complaint and they were the only telephone company who sorted it out without me having to going to OFCOM.

Thames Water- Try and hide behind the Data Protection Act to avoid answering queries (Indian and UK staff) and refused to give a water bill until threaten with the regulator. Oh and they keep sending me letters asking me to give my name to them before they cut off my water supply.

I think there is a theme here but I think that the worst company has to be Talk Talk because none of their staff I have talked to were in India so they don't have culture differences as an excuse.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

  • My vote has to go to BT

I have home phone and broadband through BT, I pay the home phone by monthly DD but the broadband people set up a quarterly DD up for the internet...without my permission! I have since telephoned them three times, filled out a new DD agreement for a monthly payment, and written them a letter...yet I telephoned them and they told me I am set up for a quarterly DD ARGH! They make me so angry

    Anyway, rant over hehe!

BT has to be the worst ever. Expensive and a real rip off. I would prefer to use Virgin but its not in our road.

In my opinion AOL is terrible.
If you lose your connection to the service, it is always a fault from their end, but I'm hanging on the phone for extrordinary lengths of time (sometimes up and even over the hour) to get the problem rectified!!!
Earlier in the year I had to make 3 lengthy calls to them, the total cost of the calls was nearly £10.00...
You cannot even get a cheaper rate going through 18185 as they do not connect to those type of numbers.

As per usual the problem was an AOL fault...

hard to know where to start isnt it?

    BG? overpriced and shoddy workmanship.
    SKY? simply appalling service.
Comet? only interested in selling warranties to numptys.
Co-op? ive no idea where they get their staff from?
Everest DG et al. overpriced and very dubious sales tactics.
(you can include 99% of all home improvement cos in this. 100% of the nationals).
DFS? overpriced for very average furniture.
AOL? customer service is a laugh. and since talktalk took over even the BB service is now a laugh.
BT? overpriced, esp for a last century service/infrastructure.

good companies? asda & tesco. never any real problems with them. keen prices and 99% good staff.

ikea is ok too. apart from making me walk about 2 miles to the checkout!
    Get some gorm.
