found a novel way of decluttering today- smash things! Yes that's right! Hope has a dancing mini mouse that she's terrified of. I tried to get her to not be scared by moving her up onto the mantelpiece, holding HOpe whilst she danced and tried to encourage her to touch her... sadly Mini got too excited and danced a little too fast and managed to fall over and knock off a load of ornaments which then smashed everywhere! That's one huge clean up operation and one mantelpiece completely wiped out of trinkets!

O no johanne, that is a lot of money to go missing, I really feel for you. :( I hope it comes to light soon, and it wasn't someone nasty who "borrowed" it.
Lalli, if course people are going to need a "virtual" bookkeeper. So many of us are in the same boat, made redundant or lost our jobs, and are starting up on our own but can't afford full-time, or even part-time staff, we just need someone to keep tabs on the paperwork. You can set up your own website for free, with free hosting and free domain name (I usually offer this service from my own website, but you are obviously computer-savvy so will manage it yourself!). This forum frowns on providing referral links, so if you google "weebly" (:) dot com), you will find the site I'm referring to. You will find loads of tutorials on youtube if you search for the name weebly there. It really is free, and a good basic website. Please PM me if you need any help.
On a different note, I decided to swop things around this week, and sell children's toys on Amazon and books on ebay. Within 24 hours I had sold one of the toys for loads more than it was going for on ebay :T, but the books are a bit quiet on ebay, so will have to see if it works. By the way Amazon also like to take quite a hefty commission I notice!
If I don't speak to you all again before the weekend, I wish you a fabulously profitable time. (Group hug xx)

    Hi all,
what an interesting thread! I've enjoyed reading it and you all seem to be doing really well.

I started selling my books and CDs on amazon a few years ago and have made around 2K. I used to buy the odd book from the charity shop and sell it on for profit. I found that health, complementry therapy and self help books sold well, so if you see any of those it might be worth snapping them up.

sales seemed to have really dived recently, saying that all my best stuff has gone already and I was lucky as I got in early before prices really plummetted on there. I've actually had my account suspended for one bad review. I sent a CD and the postage stamp must have 'fallen' off, because the buyer had to pay extrra at her end. She gave me a negative and so they're suspended my account - so be aware!! I've appealed

I got rid of a box of 112 CDs to music magpie for £90 which wasn't too bad! I also sold around £30 worth at a car boot for 50p - £1 each. I've a box of CD singles left, so might sell them as a job lot on gumtree or ebay.

At present I have a few things to advertise/sell:

a brand new never used Outwell tent
a massage bed - did a sports massage course but never used it after that! I'll advertise that locally in the paper and will phone the local colleges.
Ancient history text books - did a degree at UCL, so I'll phone them and send the list of books - most are too heavy for amazon.
I've got a midwifery text book too, but thats way too heavy to put on amazon. I got it from the charity shop for a fiver and its selling brand new for £30 on amazon!

OH has some music stuff to sell so I'll have a think about where I can advertise them.

I use Quidco cashback site and Yougov. I'm only upto £30 odd with yougov and I've been doing it for yonks!!

I work full time but am going to uni in Sept to do a year long post grad diploma. Luckily work will keep paying me my current wage and I'll be able to do the odd shift to bump my pay up. I'll try and do Sundays as the enhanced pay for sundays is worth the effort!

Good luck to everyone.. keep it up!!:T

Hi butterfly27 and welcome!- you are in a good company...
Based on your 'signature' you have done brilliantly to-date, keep up the good work!
Congrats Joanne on your first amazon sale- at least you made some profit... I sold 2 books to-date and only broke even after paid for postage- I reviewed my costs so it will not happen again, lesson learned. :o

I did do a carboot sale this morning and cleared 40 pounds after all the costs- that's 150 ponds made of 3 carboot sale and 2 carload full of stuff sold- I'm 'extatic'!
Anyway I made enough to pay for my holiday I think I just will go on my own and send a postcard to my family - LOL :rotfl:

Finally managed to take pictures of my new stuff for ebay (including the PS2) that I hope to put up tomorrow evening- better than never... ;)
On Friday 4 out 7 relisted items sold making (ta-dah) 5 pounds profit after fees / postage - I guess its better than nothing.
PS- the ladies in my Post Office dreding to see me coming...

My total to-date is 369 ponds out of 990- 621 to go

I hope everybody is having a great and fruitfull weekend!!! :)

Well! What can I say?! This weekend is crazy! I sold 7 out of 8 items on ebay and ended up putting the unsold items (Some baby vests) in with one of the other bundles as I couldn't be bothered relisting it again and paying fees etc so that is one WHOLE box of clothes gone now! I'm so pleased!

This weekend is our open to view day for our house so we've spent all day yesterday tidying and cleaning and decluttering. I put all our listed items into boxes and realised they fill two MASSIVE boxes so I can't wait to see that pile going down! I did go to our library to look at books to sell on but there wasn't very much at all, I like butterfly's idea of going to the charity shop so I will try that maybe next week!

My main aim today is to sell our house! I mean i've had so much success with books and baby clothes that surely when it's open house day today I'll be able to sell the house too?! Surely?!?!

I have no idea what my running total is to my new goal (£200 before end of Sept) but I think it's probably about £20 as it's been a quiet week really.

Haha coco i know what you mean, I'v ebeen to the post office every day this week and i think they groan when they see me standing there with a hundred parcels and an unimpressed looking baby in tow!
    :)

    Hi everybody!
I have booked our holiday for next year and guess what? The holiday gone up to £370 per person- apparently the last quote didn't included luggage fees- did they think we will fly with 5kg handluggage for a week? GRRRRR...
So I have to up my new total to £1110 by the 3rd week of September- thats when the final balance is due.
Its just getting more and more daunting- if I didn't have this forum I'm not sure how would I do it- so a big thank you for all your support :money:!
I have managed to put on 14 items to e-bay last night including the PS2 and I have 4 more items to upload tonight- I find it very tiring to put on things on e-bay- its give a headache after an hour.
I still haven't have any luck with getting a decent car insurance quote with any cashback - if I go through a cashback site it either overinflated or the company doesn't cover N Ireland :(.
Well, I still don't give up + I will get 2 pet insurance at the average of £35 each and my home insurance is due soon...- fingers crossed.
There is no new sales with Amazon- however I got a 5* feedback- it made my day! I have also love to look through carbot sales and charity shops for unusal books-for exmaple I picked up a book on archery for 50p and it sales for £6.00 on amazon and it is only available from the USA. Ok, its no necesarely will sell anytime soon, but I got a really good selection on books on amazon with a minimal cost to me- I just have to wait and be patient... :p.
Well, thats enough rambeling from me, lets get back to coming up with new ideas on how to make money...

Hey coco! well done that's a good find with that book and like you say it may not sell just yet on amazo but at least they don't charge you for listing, only once it's sold so it doesn't matter if it just stays in your house for a while! not so good news about the holiday price going up! I hope that the ebay listings are good for you so you get some good money! I agree though listing with ebay does give you a headache it seems so complicated and long-winded!
  • Hi all, congratulations to everyone who topped up the coffers this weekend ... you're right coco, it's great to have the support of everyone on this forum, to know that they all here rooting for you :T
Today I transferred £20 from paypal into my bank account, it's growing slowly. Little bits coming out for postage, but more coming in than going out :j
Like Coco, I have found that I've left it too late to book my flights, the cost is out of my price range now . I phoned my daughter in Spain today and she is fine with it, as the other grandparents can't make it either ... we will all go out later in the month and have a second birthday party. :)
I like your style Fozzeh, sometimes we just want to get rid of the stuff! I did a tabletop sale last Thursday and towards the end of the afternoon I was selling things for 50p coz I couldn't bear to lug it all home again.
