Hey Rags am with you on the overtime front - I try not to do any as it by the time the tax has come off and then they redcue my tax credits its really not worth it. DH does lots but we guesstimate in advance so it doesnt affect what we get. Its a nightmare really.
I am going to try and do some house work today but will leave bulk unti they all back to school and me and little one can crack on in peace - it really is never ending lol.

  • I have stopped dwelling on the overtime disappearing and made my overpayment to the cc, has brought it under £2k!!! whoo hoo:D Dont think i will make it to my £10k target but will be as near as dam it! (secretly not that fussed now, i wanna see my debt under £20k more now)

Still have some cake money owed and have another cake for this weekend.

Dont have as much overtime this month as have a weeks hols in half term week so nice break and a rest for me and no more silly groups of shifts! One of the other nurses has loads of shifts and wanted to give me some but she has done nothing about and given the amount of money you actually get im not going to chase her for them either.................her loss, not mine. Still sort of doing extra as doing full time hours (still on my part time contract till a nurse goes on mat leave at xmas) so can still overpay next month.

right, quick one from me, gonna go get ready for another day at work. booooo!

I found the same with overtime, by the time the tax man had his cut it wasnt worth the stress and missing out on Pip time.

2020 the year of less - Less debt, less waste, less spending, less stuff, less stress!
  • Not been on here for a while as been very poorly with a bad cold. Only just starting to feel human again and thats only due to several medicines.

Not much happening on the debt front, need to check online banking to see what payments have gone out and add that the total. Got my slow cooker out today and got a nice chicken casserole going, with added haircot beans to bulk it out a little. Watched the river cottage last night and spurred me on to make more of the meals from fresh stuff.

Have a bit of a dilemma going on at the mo. My MIL is being made homeless (the person who she shares with hasnt been paying the rent so being evicted and my MIL cant afford a spot on her own) so is coming to live with us. Not sure how im feeling about it as my first instinct is to be negative and worry that i will feel suffocated in my own home, but i want to help her as she does so much for us. She wants to pay her way but OH has said he doesnt want to take money off her as we owe her £800 still. Im thinking of saying to knock £50 a week off (she is paying £75 at the other spot) what we owe her and we can put that money towards the wedding????? is that cheeky????? Also she will do her own food shopping but i have no spare cupboards to give her and i know for a fact if the kids see her nice yogurts in the fridge they will want them, cue lots of tantrums and tears. And what about her washing??? will she want to do hers seperate meaning one of us will have to wait to do theirs????? It could work, couldnt it??? Least its another pair of hands to keep on top of the housework etc.

On a good note, going to look at a possible venue for the wedding on tues. They are doing a wedding package thats miles cheaper but only for next year so we are going to see about prices and stuff and see if we can afford to get married next year instead!!!!!!!!! ooh exciting stuff. Have to say i have it all planned out in my head, found bridemaid dresses for £30 (nice maxi dresses on ebay) my wedding dress for under £200, the table centre bits i can do cheap, gonna make cupcakes for favours, doing my own wedding cake........................................should make it cheap on the budget.

right, off to force some food down. Lost my sense of taste at the moment so eating is a task rather that enjoyable.

  • Hi Rags,

I don't think you are unfair in your thinking, if your MIL wants to pay her own way then a weekly reduction on the money you owe her seems like a perfect compromise!

To be honest I don't see why she would want to do her washing separately, you are all family, so it shouldn't make a difference, just bung it all in together!

Kids will always want the goodies in the fridge, and most grandparents will dish them out occasionally...well mine do anyway!

Try not to worry so much Rags, like you say a hand with the housework will be much appreciated! :p

  • I have broken my own rules and started xmas shopping before my birthday. But i have to say its only coz i have found some good offers........got ds2's bike from the local sports shop who are having a 75% off sale, was £70..................now £29!!!!!!! and got most of OH's sisters kids sorted, got them books from the book people who visit work (think i spent just over a tenner but that covered three pressies!!!)

OH's sister is giving us her eldests bike which has not out of the house or ridden since he got it for his birthday last year. Now do i be cheeky and keep it hidden till xmas day so he has it as a main pressie or buy him one???????????? my head is saying ooh what a way to save money and they both asked for a bike off santa but my heart is saying its tight and cheap. what would you all do?????

  • Bargain on the bike for DS2 - Christmas is only 8 weeks or so away so it's not too early to start!

Just popping out of lurkdom to say I would wrap the bike that's been gifted to you for DS1 for Christmas - it's not tight at all, it's sensible, and it'll be new to him in any event.

  • I agree wrap up the bike and give it to him for christmas, as far as DS is concerned father christmas is bringing it, its just mothers guilt making you think you have to buy brand new for him (i suffer from this all the time hence sig).
  • I would also hide the bike for Christmas hun, bargain on the other bike at £29 !! xx
