No me either, but I have to say when you LIVE IN as opposed to driving through these "slum" areas they can be the best place you ever lived. )

I guess thats what her friend means when she liked vauxhall or others suggest wembley, homerton, new cross.

Out of interest, does anyone have any thoughts about Eltham?
( Surrey quays/canada water is in Southwark BTW.

Eltham is nice, I live close by. You have Eltham & New Eltham, you could find a place for £600 there. Has your idiot chavs but everywhere does now.

Not mad - just call it a different opinion from yours

Can anyone let me know why Eltham isnt so good? Is it the racism, or something else?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I think its like anywhere else full of chavs, apart from that I could live there but others couldn't.

Ok, I get it. You dont really get "proper" chavs in London ( hooded gangs of teens yes)

its one of the best things about it ( joke)

I will steer clear of eltham then on that basis, thanks Debrag ;)

( was going to anyway due to train costs which seemed extortionate in any case)

If you're staying away due to chavs then good luck to where you do end up and yes train fare is expensive!

OP with an indoor cat, are you sure about a house share being an option? I have two indoor cats and they do sometimes try and get out the front door when it's open - my siamese has got out several times and it is an absolute PITA getting her back inside. With housemates, can you expect them to be super careful not to let Remus out?

I know you want to narrow down some areas in advance but London is so big you do need to spend some time there before picking an area. I would also echo what others have said about it not being as scary as it seems once you get there. You might read a lot about violence etc, but put it into context - look how many people live there!

Anyway, perhaps a touch more usefully, your work hours open up other options for you. I lived in Zone 4 (horror of horrors) and could be at work in the city in under an hour, door to door, because I used to work similar hours to you. I'd have preferred to live closer for the atmosphere, but finances dictated the location to some extent (there were other factors too).

What about London bridge or docklands (dlr and jubilee line)
