How to get OH on board?

  • RMC - Don't think we have ever had PPI, and we are going to do the bank charges letter later this week. Think we have been lucky enough not to get many CC charges - we have managed the minimum payment and not overspent the limit (well, once or twice only), its really the interest thats the crippler at the moment.

    Hi Mrs G - yeah, I need to look at strategys for Mr P's car - its too big and expensive and we both know it, but not sure if we sell it, that we'll get enough to cover the loan it was bought with - so might be stuck with part of a debt for something we don't own. But the action plan seems to help keeping the focus (I know its only 2 days in, so I'm probably tempting fate here!) and the fact that everything has been raided, right down to the piggy bank, is a sobering thought. Is your hubby "on board" yet or still in the process?

    Hang in there and do have a look at the snowball, it will help you work out what to pay any extra pennies you do ever come across (I haven't managed to find any yet!)
    LBM Feb 2010 £62,700 Total Debt Jan 11 [STRIKE]£49,403.84[/STRIKE] £47,530.32.

    Challenge = Debt at 31/01/12 = £25k. 2011 Payments = £1,944.19/£24,403.84

    There is no point in negative thought, it takes up time and energy which could be used in a positive, happy way!

  • Oh another thing I did was change mortgage to interest only.

    Good tip! Phoned mortgage company today - application form is on its way, and could reduce monthly payment to £300! which would help a lot to get our heads a bit more above the water.

    OH has managed a no spend week so far (except parking) :A lets hope he can keep it up! I think once he starts to see the real results it will help to keep him motivated

    Has your hubby kept a spending diary? and looked at the snowballer? Finding something equivalent in value to the debt, that we could have had if no debt, was another LBM for us too, and was a bit of a motivator! If your hubby likes nice cars.... :)

    My goodness, an application form, I was just able to do it over the phone and normally the Halifax aren't so customer friendly.

    I guess you have looked at the snowball............good isn't it? Really helped me see light at the end of the tunnel

    Just a couple of thoughts from reading the first half of the thread

    1) You may need to nag your OH/DH to get his expenses claims in promptly, I know they are a PITA, but he needs to do them to ensure they get in before the payment run each week/month. If he doesn't know when that is he needs to ask.

    2) Have a look at the OS thread on here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33
    Loads of tips for making meat go further, i.e. adding red lentils and/or oats/ grated carrot to mince once cooked slowly, a slow cooker is good for this, then you cannot tell the difference. and also the rubber chicken, how to make a chicken go much further.

    Hope this helps.
