He must be very sure that he paid it as he has not backed down - he must surely know if he is lying if he is in a huge amount of trouble.
I wish you luck Littlemadam as this kind of thing winds me up too - I smiled at your comment about friends exaggerating stories even though you were there !!Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -

!
You would think wouldnt you? With the !!!!!! thing which I said I had proof etc etc it went on for hours of him denying it and swearing on my life he hadn't. Not that I had an issue with it! It was only when I showed him there was no way he could deny it. It is so upsetting a human can be like this0 -

I hate being rude about someone I don't know but why does he do it ??
Life is so much easier telling the truth - the lies always catch up with you.
Maybe it is a 'money' thing.
I used to be rubbish with money - cost myself a fortune by paying things late - perhaps your OH didn't want the rollicking for being a 'late payer' so he said 'Yes I've paid it' to avoid any aggro from you.
Maybe I'm just clutching at straws too !Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -

He does it because he is a gutless wonder sometimes.
I love him dearly, but have always hated liars so why the hell did I marry one? I just thought it would all go away.
Should have gone home by now but am scared of the onslaught that is to come from him when I explicitly stated I did not want to argue.

I'm sorry that you have this ahead of you - good luck.
If he is correct then you must apologise but do you know what you will do if he is proved to be lying ?Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
Thanks Richard. I am praying I am so wrong about this, as then I can go out of my way to rectify the situation.
If he has been lying I really have no idea. We are newly wed and really really dont know what to do. Got a feeling he might leave me first anyway xxxx0 -

I'm sorry but I don't have an answer for you.
If he loves you, why does he lie ?
Good luck tonight and in the nicest way I hope you are wrong about him not paying (hope you understand what I mean !)Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
