Termination is often a "Taboo" subject, yet it is a decision that many womenhave to make every day - Its just unfortunate that many are left doing it alone because they are afraid of how they may be judged by family & friends.

I'll be thinking of you & wishing you a Speedy recovery.

Hi Icey, I don't have any personal experience of this, but I know how hard a decision it must be. I just wanted to wish you the best and hope it all goes smoothly. A friend of mine was recently considering this type of termination. She kept the baby in the end, but when she was planning on terminating, she was terrified of what the pain would be like and desperately wanted hear other people's experiences, so I understand that. She did lots of googing and found lots of stories--good and bad. everyone's experience will be different, but I do think it is good to get an idea of what you can expect. I suggest you google medical termination/the abortion pill and have a read of the stories/threads on other forums. Here are a few to start you off:

    Hi IC,

Are you having the surgical abortion, under anaesthetic, or the medical option, with pills?

I am having a missed miscarriage at the moment, so although it was a planned for baby, the sac is still there and has to be removed. I attempted the medical option last Friday, but unfortunately it didn't work, so am having the surgical option on Wednesday, the same as an abortion even though there's no foetus. I will let you know how it goes after if you like? but from what others have told me, you are only 'asleep' for half an hour, the surgery itself only lasts for 10 mins, and there is maybe discomfort when you leave, but no real pain, so please try not to worry.

Hope it all goes smoothly for you hun. Even though I'm miscarrying a planned for and much wanted baby and feel sad, I wouldn't ever judge another woman for her choices. I work with children and see some parents who clearly should never have had their kids, at least not at the time they did, some even admitting so themselves, so abortion is sometimes the kinder option.

    Good luck, Sarah xx

I did find the EMT unpleasant (I know it's not meant to be easy) but it is the natural way for your body as the medication causes a miscarriage at home.

I respect the right of anybody to choose, but please do not compare it to a miscarriage. The key to miscarriage is the mis prefix, it is not intended to happen.

By all means choose what is best for your situation, but please do not think that it is anything like the hurt and upset that goes with a true miscarriage.

Icey, I just wanted to say all the best for your operation, I hope it's not too painful for you. And when you come home be nice to yourself, hjave a few treats and choccy bars. Chill out with some magazines and try not to feel bad. It's a natural thing to feel upset but it'll pass with help from your bloke xxxx

The OP has not compared her situation with a miscarriage, she started this thread to avoid upsetting people on the miscarriage support thread, even though she clearly feels sadness about her situation.

The poster you are referring to was just using a technical term, because the biological process is very similar, just that one is accidental and one is induced. A lot of the physical effects the OP will go through will be the same.

I don't think trying to make the OP feel bad for feeling bad is very supportive.

I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible.

It is a big decision to make and having been there myself (though picking the other option) I know how difficult and confusing a time it can be.

As long as in your gut it is the right decision for you (whichever way people choose to go) then you will be ok, with support.

Becoming pregnant when you have taken steps to avoid it is heartbreaking as it puts you in a position you did not want to be in and tried hard not to be. I had a lot of guilt that my 'prevention' via the pill just wasn't enough (I could see how it would put some off intercourse). That is not to say it did not turn out the best way possible for me, but at the time the confusion and stress was so great!

I hope this thread manages to stay on target and respectful as this is a subject a number of people will probably appreciate support for. Especially when this subject is one that can't always be brought up easily due to stigma and strong opinions either way.

    :)
