I'm about to apply online for this but i was wondering if i was to get the 17.9% and not the 12.9% would it still be better than using a Post Office credit card abroad? (US)

I also got a mailshot through the post so they obviously want me :rotfl:

Depends if its for cash withdrawals and purchases...

Also depends which PO card you get/have - they have a 16.9% card and a 19.9% card...

Finally, If you only purchase on the card and payoff by the statement date, then there is very little in either.

    Duly thanked

I'm aware the PO card is no use for ATM withdrawals - Clarity card beats it hands down. I'm not sure about the % on the PO card, they sent me a new one without me even asking for one! *Edit* just found it in the T&C'S for the Standard Renewal card as they call it; 18.32% but i have a 3 mths 0% Introductory rate which i guess makes it the best now seeing as i'll be using it next month.

I intend to make Purchases on the card and like you say pay it off within the month.

according to halifax's webpage "Two thirds of customers are offered our best rate of typical 12.9% APR (variable)"

After reading this posts on this forum i don't believe that at all.

The offer did seem to good to be true.

If they were lying with that statement, the regulators could impose a big fine. That and the reputational damage that would go with it means it isn't worth their while.

They've probably issued tens of thousands cards. Do you really think a handful of posts on an internet forum prove anything?
  • I got 12.9%.....don't know why though. I have a lot of accounts with Halifax and a 10 year credit history with them. I have average earnings, always pay off full balance....so not sure what contributed to me getting the low rate

Apologies if this info has already been posted on this thread but if anyone Is interested, here is an indication of the conversion rates applied on my statement during recent trip to US. I was really pleased and will rely on it more next time. I didn't withdraw any cash on this occasion.

Transaction Date / Conversion used / Interbank rate for Comparison

    21/09 1.55 / 1.5599
    29/09 1.57 / 1.581
    06/10 1.59 / 1.587
    08/10 1.58 / 1.591

We ordered our cash online from Post Office on
27/9 (best local rate on day) and we got 1.54 when the Interbank rate was 1.583!

No but one of there customer service advisor's said not many people get the top rate.

Seems strange how every card i've had i've always had the best rate, now all of a sudden i dont.

Most people who applied hoping for the 12.9% APR and did get it probably won't be posting to complain about it.

Both my partner and I got it. Neither of us has paid any interest on credit-cards in years. We also have three Reward accounts each, and my partner has a Halifax One card which was used throughout 2009 when it was at 0%, then it paid off in full and hasn't been used since. So it's pretty obvious that they're not going to making much money from either of us - and as if that wasn't enough, when I applied for the Clarity card on the phone, I was completely honest about only wanting it for the monthly fiver.

I suspect that a lot of those applying for the Clarity card aren't planning on paying interest anyway - they're applying so they can use it overseas, or, like us, for the fivers - and so they don't really care what the interest rate is.

i've just applied for this, and received the 'you'll hear in 10 days' message. Do we know if this means that it's a rejection or would they have told you that straight away?
    thanks
  • Just a quick heads up for anyone applying for this card. I have not received the cashback payment despite meeting all the criteria on two complete billing cycles.

I spoke to customer services last week who didn't know whether the cashback payment was paid into the card account or into my current account.

As the cashback had still not arrived today I called again and was told that I had a Clarity Rewards card and not a Clarity Rewards "Cashback" card. As far as I was aware I had applied for the cashback card which was my only reason for applying.

CS said they will raise a complaint and should be able to backdate the missing cashback but for anyone else applying be careful which card you actually apply for.
