A similar thing happened to me -- I applied for the card (which I'm 99% sure was the Rewards Card) and also for a separate one in my wife's name. Wife's card got the £5 cashback but mine failed to appear. After twice being told by CS that I "should have" had it & also that I "would be" getting it the following month & didn't, I finally got a phone call back from someone who knew what she was talking about. And, yes, MY card was apparently NOT the Rewards one... The v.nice lady said it was not possible to switch my 'ordinary' card over to a Rewards one (even in this Modern Day & Age!) but instead I would have to cancel my card & re-apply for a Rewards one. That was the bad news. But the good news was that she credited me with the 2 x £5 that I had missed out on, another £5 for the month that I would be missing plus another £5 on top of that. I also have her direct phone number in case I got rejected when I re-applied! But, this week, I have had a letter (I did not receive an instant decision on-line this time) telling me that I have been accepted again. It will be interesting to see if I get the same c/limit as last time but it doesn't bother me either way since I'll only be using it for a £300 spend plus foreign spending.

I had a similar conversation with CS. Strange that they can't switch the non-rewards card to a rewards card and I too will have to re-apply.

I also got 1 x £5 as a "goodwill gesture". I could have pushed for the 2 months that I had used the card for but as it was my fault for applying for the wrong card I let it pass.

Right, I have just turned 18 so I called Halifax to convert my Under 18's cardcash bank account to a standard current account. I was told that this was not possible, I had to re-apply and would get a brand new account with a new sort-code/acc number, I would then need to close the cardcash myself afterwards.

So I went through the bank account opening procedure, and was issued with a new account number - he said that I just need to verify my ID again in branch as when I verified it last time I was under 18. Appointment booked in branch next week in order for me to do this.

Then the guy went on to say I was guaranteed acceptance on either a Clarity or a Charity credit card. I then went on to inform him that I applied for a Clarity card online last week and was turned down (not surprising, I have no credit history due to my age, and its a great card), however he said that this was no problem as I was guaranteed acceptance now on the Clarity card as I have opened my new standard bank account. I did ask him several times that I was just applying for a standard account and that I could not pay in £1000 per month at this time, all of which was confirmed back to me over the phone.

I should be over the moon with all of this, but it just doesn't make sense to me. Any ideas? I suppose I will soon find out when I go in branch with my ID!

    Cheers,
    Brad

I agree, it does seem odd, but if they say that you've got guaranteed acceptance then that's what you've got!

Do it in the branch when you go in, there won't be any credit check or anything.

:oWell, as mentioned I applied mainly because of the ''our offers'' on the Halifax online banking. Anyway today, got a decline letter, quite a vague letter. One thing on the application it asks for gross income and because of my circumstances I put my net income, I do have a full account with them and a £300 overdraft. Plus my debit card has a cheque guarantee of £100.
So should I just build up my internal score with them for a few more month's?

I have read a few posters have received a card and no full credit check, just guaranteed?

Has anyone else noticed that the "Total For Recent Transactions" under the 'Recent transactions' part of the Halifax website doesn't seem to add up with the card transactions listed?

    Mine always seems fine.

I know it seems obvious, but I take it you've checked that your transactions aren't going over two pages? The 'total' amount will include transactions from all pages, not just the current one.

Yes, mine goes over two pages as well - the problem I have is that the total seems less than the sum of this month's transactions, not more!

does a balance transfer count as a "purchase" to qualify for the £5 monthly reward?

    No, it doesn't.

Chaps, I spent £300 last month, but with the £5 cashback, my balance now is £295, do I still get the cashback? or do I actually need to spend £305 each month?

(my statement date is 9th of each month and for the last two months I've had the £5 hit my account on the 9th... but no sign this month....)
