Dave, you're have a laff right?

You think someone sits there and decide on what rate to give you? Its all automated these days mates.

"You never know when you might need extended credit" well in that case, there are other cards out there to use. Don't use the clarity!

They gave me something like 21.9%. I didn't care about the rate. It could have been 219% for all I cared. Its gona get repaid every month. I never spend more than £300 on it and I get the free £5.

If you really wanted to screw them, you'd have taken the card!

Thanks for the concern chaps but who said I was carrying debt? I haven't paid interest on a credit card since my early twenties, which has been a while now.

It was the principle. They say that 2/3rds of applicants get the lower rate but for whatever reason, I didn't qualify for it. On the other hand, I don't have to accept their rate that is 17.4% above base rate if I don't like their offer. You never know when you might need extended credit?!

They lose the merchant fees and I lose an extra free fiver each month. I'll just keep playing with the three reward accounts for my screw the bank money.

    Dave,

Your post has made me look at what Interest rate they are charging me on my Clarity card (I honestly did not pay attention to it, so I did not know)

Guess what, mine is 21.9% APR.

Now I will never pay them a penny because I will always pay the card off. I have another Halifax One card maxed out at £5,050 which is on Interest free until April 2011. This money is in the AA Savings at 2.85% earning interest and will get paid back to Halifax the day before the interest free period ends.

Now who is shafting who here?

I get a free fiver on Clarity plus my other 3 free fiver's for the reward Current Accounts, and I am earning interest on £5050 of their money.

Play the system Dave, and don't take it personal.

    Andy
  • Sorry lads, I just wasn't happy to accept the interest rate offered. They have a right to set their automated (thanks iereboy) interest rates but as a customer, I have the right to refuse that offer. It gave me greater satisfaction returning the documents than accepting an extortionate rate whether I'd be paying interest on a monthly basis or not.

You're right Andy, I probably took it personally but until I need their credit and their monthly fiver.....I'm going to give them a miss for now.

    Must be slow-stoozing some purchases?...because a 3% BT fee (for a fast-stooz) would almost certainly make you a loss...even over 13-15 months.

You are right YB. I got the card in April at 0% on purchases over 12 months and by June I had maxed it out with purchases. By the way the interest rate they offered me on this card was 15.9% APR.

For info too, I applied once only and it shows 2 searches on my credit file.

I applied because it was in ''My Offers'' and checking with Experian 2 credit searches:eek: Almost identical but the other search didn't have time at address?
  • I have this card and had no idea what the rate is.

I use it for the free fivers and they can charge 100% interest if they want because I will pay it off in full every month.

Me too - me too - Me too! (I'm repeating myself because this stupid board told me my message was too short at just 1 "Me too!" ! )

  • Actually it was me typing nonsense in my post.

They told me I had a Clarity Card and not a Clarity Rewards Card. To be honest I don't recall there being any distinction between the two when I applied online for what I thought was the reward card.

A similar thing happened to me -- I applied for the card (which I'm 99% sure was the Rewards Card) and also for a separate one in my wife's name. Wife's card got the £5 cashback but mine failed to appear. After twice being told by CS that I "should have" had it & also that I "would be" getting it the following month & didn't, I finally got a phone call back from someone who knew what she was talking about. And, yes, MY card was apparently NOT the Rewards one... The v.nice lady said it was not possible to switch my 'ordinary' card over to a Rewards one (even in this Modern Day & Age!) but instead I would have to cancel my card & re-apply for a Rewards one. That was the bad news. But the good news was that she credited me with the 2 x £5 that I had missed out on, another £5 for the month that I would be missing plus another £5 on top of that. I also have her direct phone number in case I got rejected when I re-applied! But, this week, I have had a letter (I did not receive an instant decision on-line this time) telling me that I have been accepted again. It will be interesting to see if I get the same c/limit as last time but it doesn't bother me either way since I'll only be using it for a £300 spend plus foreign spending.
Expect the worst & hope for the best...

You think you are being the clever one by doing this, but in reality, Halifax are none-the-wiser (at their size, I doubt they could care less about not getting 1 customer) and you are £5 a month worse off.

Of course, feel free to do it for the principle, but doing anything "for principle" with large companies is completely and utterly futile.

Regarding Halifax doing 2 credit searches when I applied for this card, emailed Experian and they are deleting one of the searches:j As anyone else checked their files to see if more than one credit check was done for this card?

Also, did they send out first a credit agreement to sign?
