No, gambling sites won't work. Only purchases count towards the £300. It's a false economy to spend more than you would otherwise do to qualify for a £5 reward.

For those of us with the payment date of 16 August (statement date 23 August), the £5 reward has been paid.

5 quid credit has hit the account but it doesn't go against your statement balance, so I still have to pay the full statement balance but in effect will have 5quid off next statement.

My £5 has come off the current balance so I will now only need to repay £295.01 (by 17 September).

Although you cannot pre-load the card with cash I assume you can transfer funds into the account via online bankinig as soon as the debit hits the credit card, thereby avoiding 99.9% of the interest charge for a month.

IE, withdraw £100 cash from Spanish ATM on monday, transfer £100.03 (or whatever) to the card account from the bank account on Tuesday. Hey presto! (virtually) free cash from foreign ATMs.

Sort of. On-line payments to Halifax cards (even from Halifax accounts) aren't instant though.

That's good to know, but most cards I know process payments on next working day the earliest, even with Faster Payments. BACS from as external account will obviously take longer than that.

Do you know when a bill payment (not a debit card payment) from a Halifax account actually reaches the card? An internal transfer should not go by BACS, but it still could take its time...
    Enjoy the silence...
