    MORPH3US,
There for the grace of God go I!, possibly my statement isn't one that you subscribe too?
    Such is life!!!!

    W.W.

Thankfully no member of my family has ever been knocked down by a drunk / uninsured driver and I pray that they never are....

How would you feel if someone you knew was though and it could have been avoided but for someones "I can't grass anyone up" mentality.

    How selfish.
  • Hi all,
Just to clear this point up as this thread seems to be going off my original gripe.
The women in question has been driving for 19 years and this is the first and only conviction and accident she has had in her driving career
(even though it is a really serious).
I am aware that she is really sorry for her stupidity and accepts she did a foolish thing, she will never get behind the wheel of any vehicle while she is banned and therefore uninsurable.
My original gripe was to highlight how easy Motability and RSA give in to drunk driving and let the same person order up a new and better car as if it is nothing out of the ordinary.
I know that if I smashed my car whilst drunk I can forget my insurance paying out for repairs or a replacement new car.

  • I think the important point in all of this is that the delivery of the car has been postponed until September.

It will be interesting to see whether she does actually get the car, or whether her application is eventually rejected.

I'd be suprised if she does actually end up getting the car.

This thread highlights a loophole, which I am sure Motability would like to be made aware of and close before it is repeated.

I still don't see how she could have put in an order for another vehicle from Motability just 10 days after the accident.

They certainly wouldn't accept an order for a second car while the lease on the first was still outstanding. I can't see that the insurers would have settled the lease within 10 days (altho I have no experience of what happens, of course).

Maybe her new car is being held up because motability rejected the order, and the dealer needs to re-submit the order once the insurers have paid up for the write-off ? She may find the order then gets rejected because of the circumstances of the accident (altho maybe not, that's motability's decision).
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

Even if she would still get the money - they are giving her a car - which can be a very dangerous thing in the hands of a drunk driver

No-one is "GIVING" this lady anything !!!

She receives DLA, and is spending that money on leasing a car. If she doesn't get one from motability, she can spend the money leasing/buying one from elsewhere. She'll just have to also buy servicing and insurance, and the insurance will be VERY expensive, after a DD conviction.

I am also just a little shocked that you assume she would now be a serial offender as far as drunk driving is concerned. Whilst I am not condoning her actions AT ALL , I don't think it's fair to assume she would do the same thing again.
