My sympathys Floydy. My dog shares the same name and she's kicking on now. I'd go for the 0% credit card option if it was me. I know how hard it is when it comes to pets, mine is my bairn, I've had her since I rescued her as a lil pup-de-dup. She's been there for me through some pretty hard times, I couldnt put a price on treatment she needed, after all, how much does the love of a happy healthy dog cost. I know in my area there are "cheaper" vets, kinda like animal medical centres rather than vets as such if that makes sense? The level of treatment won't be any different you may just save a few pound- which you could spend on nice treats to help the baba recover.Maybe the vet will be nice and come to some kind of an arrangement, my vet did this once, when Floyd ate a woodlice and suffered an allergic reaction he gave her the jab for free, he must have took pity on me 'cos I was bawling like a baby with snot running down my face. Good luck, and lots of strokes to your Floydy...RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

Just had a quick look on the RSPCA web site and it says that there can be help with vets fees and not only for those claiming benefits. Have a look at the link above - not sure where in the country you live but there seems to be a link to most regions.
It says this on the web site...
"Subsidised veterinary assistance
RSPCA companion animal hospitals provide low-cost treatment for animals belonging to people in receipt of certain state benefits or to those who otherwise cannot afford the fees of a private veterinary surgeon.
The RSPCA veterinary division provides subsidised treatment at several locations - Finsbury Park (Harmsworth Hospital), Edmonton & Kilburn clinics, Putney Hospital, Camberwell and Ealing clinics as well as at the Birmingham and Manchester hospitals. The division also licenses the provision of a similar veterinary service through 39 local RSPCA branches. A new veterinary facility has also just opened in Merthyr Tydfil.
To find an RSPCA location near you which provides this service you can search for establishments which provide 'help with vet bills' in the local RSPCA section."
May come to nothing but worth a try.

Also had the lightbulb moment that a 0% credit card might be handy too, virtually every practice will accept plastic these days. Then I saw singlehouseholder had come up with it already!
