What a great thing to give up Hypno! You're right about it needing to be tangible - I too was thinking about 'giving up procrastinating' :o :rotfl: In my case it *needs* to be something specific that will get me over my negative thinking and habits enough to get this bl**dy phd FINISHED (again :o) in the next 10 weeks... Hmm, best get thinking cap on! Perhaps something along your lines of not MSE-ing (or whatever) until at least a couple of hours of work is done? Or past a certain time in the day? Hmm...

For me it needs to be tangible - so I have a definite "have I or haven't I" and with general procrastination, there is always a good excuse why you haven't yet done something or not done something, so I reckon I would just be making excuses, or finding reasons.....

Whereas I will know for definite whether I have put the laptop on before work. It is clean cut - either I do or I don't and I can make a routine with it, so therefore am more likely to succeed.

    I hope :rotfl:

OK thought of one for me :) Well we have to eat in restaurants a lot with our current hotel lifestyle, but want to cut down on the alcohol, so we're going to drink tea in the chinese ones from now on not wine. It was really nice tonight having tea with the meal. We already have a zero approach to drink when driving, and at lunchtimes it's mineral water for me (get too sleepy otherwise). The little inroads/mini-rules are working in cutting it back. It's so easy to get in an autopilot of asking for the wine list rather than looking into alternatives, especially when it's business socialising too.

I don't think things need to be big to in themselves to change your lifestyle, sometimes it's all the little bits that add up to get you there.

I think your idea is a good one Hypno. You really are sorting out your lifestyle and priorities.

    I think that's a good plan Hypno :T

When I was without the internet for a week after moving, I really did feel the benefit. I got loads done and realised once I'm on here, hours can go by :o

As the Queen of Procrastination, I've found nothing works better than the Flylady Mantra "You Can Do Anything in 15 Minutes"

It really is genius. Even the worst procrastinator can commit to that amount of time to start a task. Then once you're started, things kind of gather a momentum all of their own....

Enjoy your happy, healthier and calmer mornings :)

Thanks - I can't see that I will be missing out on anything, but will gain a lot from that extra half an hour. You are right, it is the small things, and habits that make a big difference. I have managed it with the food related stuff, and I am hoping for similar positive stuff from this one too.

I will keep you all informed as to my progress. After 8am of course :D

Good luck with the change of drink - I am sure you will be able to incorporate that quite easily, without feeling you are missing out :T

Hypno, I totally agree with making a tangible change .... I'm just wondering about this one tho .... are you only redistributing, or will you do less? Maybe its okay if it *is* redistributing, because your calmer mornings will give you a much better start to the day .... I'm interested, thats all - like macgirl, I was without the internet for a while when I moved (tho it was weeks in my case ) and I certainly got more done in the evenings..... I'll have to read the challenge through, and see how it applies to me....

I'm redistributing, KC - the workload is the same - the dishwasher needs to be done, the washing needs to be done, I need to get ready for work etc, but by doing it this way, hopefully it won't be so rushed, or missed, or stressful. I won't be taking on any extra, just being able to do things in a more relaxed way, hopefully!
