One sweaty, lycra clad, slightly plump bod reporting in. Have just been for a quick 3 miles - it is runchum's last run before her biggie on Sunday. The miles have been done - it is all down to how badly she wants it on the day and I am sure she will do herself proud!

I'm going to jump into the shower, then off to the ski club.....then perhaps when I get back at 9ish, I will have chance for something to eat!

I am pleased to report that on weigh in today, I am still static, weightwise, so that is good, as I am no longer counting points, just managing a good balance of food and exercise :D

I hope you have all had a good day x

In winter, I wear lycra leggings, either full length or 3/4, plus a breathable long sleeved top (expensive but oh so worth it), and a cheap luminous yellow running jacket £9.99 from JJB Sports to keep the wind off, which has possibly been my best investment because it keeps me dry and warm, but also very well seen on those dark nights.

I find "normal" t-shirts get uncomfortable when I get hot and sweaty and/or when it rains.

Main thing though - until I gave a damn about how I looked I never got out there running. Now I don't - in the summer I run in shorts...

Runners are very 'hard core' as a friend of mine often tells me - we can be rather disreputable. But this is part of the fun...

Yes Se, I agree with all the above. The only thing I would add is that a few thin layers are better than one thick one as you will heat up very quickly.
So I'd say a thin long sleeved top, a vest/short sleeved top and lightweight rain jacket with running tights or shorts in summer (I don't have the best legs either, but like Firewalker, I'm now at the point that I don't care - comfort is my only concern) and possibly thin gloves in winter.

Plus wearing shorts over running tights in winter keeps you warm and makes you feel less self-conscious :)

I'd also recommend THIS book. I got a free edited version of it years ago and there are some great tips in it, plus it really inspired me to give it a go.
Once you start you will love it! Remember, that the first 10 minutes is the worst part of every run ;)

I am thoroughly enjoying my running these days, and so am looking forward to doing some serious training over the coming months. I am determined to do a marathon in under 5 hours in 2011. :D

Back from the ski club, so just reheating some spag bol for dinner, and going to have a bit of a mooch on here, before a fairly early night, I reckon.

Good running Hypno, and fingers crossed for your runchum at the weekend! :D

I've just been out for a run too :j The alternative was Shred and I just couldn't face it toady :rotfl: Not as far as you though, just 20 mins or so - so probably only about a mile...

As for clothes - properly measured shoes and bra of course! As for style, well, I wouldn't know anything about that :rotfl: I have a proper pair of long running leggings for winter - look a bit of a fool, but good grief they work so I don't care :D Tonight I went out in three quarter length leggings, a t-shirt (not my technical one, I wasn't going for long), and a running jacket from Aldi :D

I reckon when you go out of the door you should feel a bit cold - if you've wrapped up so you feel warm you'll be far too hot within about 10 mins :) (or is that just me??? :o)

that sounds about right, cheery - if you are toastie warm when you get out of the door, you will soon overheat!

My biggest problem is in the middle of winter, when my thighs and bottom just get so cold they don't warm up again all night, even after a hot bath! This winter I will be experimenting with shorts over my leggings and I won't care *how* silly I look!

Off to look for a marathon schedule as an incentive. :D

Well tomorrow's a restday on the beginners running plan, but will do my normal weekday fitness room session, and in the afternoon, will walk the 2.5 km jogging circuit to see if it's OK. It's just city pavements and no pretty parks etc., just hoping not too many major junctions to stop the rhythm when I get one.

Is there specialist underwear? Surely there must be some with 'wicking' to stop sweat building up. I discovered the benefits of thermals in Finland, you couldn't cope without. So I'd have thought there must be specialist undies for winter runners.

Oh dear, I suffer like that as well. Yet another reason for me not to go running :)

I have "go faster" nike knickers :o

They are certainly comfy, but whether they actually make me go faster is another matter. At least I don't have to constantly *adjust* them as I am running, which is the main thing I suppose!!

gallygirl, I always thought that fat was supposed to be an insulator, but it seems I have been seriously mislead!
