indeed I do RMC - my money mindmap has a section for "surplus" - I knew I put it there for a reason :D

It will be interesting to see what Sept/October brings. When I get paid tomorrow, and can see what I have to work with, I am going to enjoy my number crunching :T

You're going well, Hypno - I love the idea of a manicure, I've literally never had one :o but even I could cope with a diy one from youtube :j

Can I pick your brain on the running Hypno? Macgirl please add comments too if you spot this :)

Currently when I'm in the fitness room/gym on the treadmill, I'm in Elle gym type bottoms and a t-shirt , which is OK for the gym. But what's the sort of kit needed for outside. I'll be in a city centre, and having to scurry through hotel reception too :o so need something practical for the coming winter weather, but also not too disreputable looking?

Also do you know what learn to run plan your friend followed Hypno?

My friend followed a schedule from the runners world site - it was a "get you round" plan and certainly has done the trick (although obviously Sunday will be the big test!).

In winter, I wear lycra leggings, either full length or 3/4, plus a breathable long sleeved top (expensive but oh so worth it), and a cheap luminous yellow running jacket £9.99 from JJB Sports to keep the wind off, which has possibly been my best investment because it keeps me dry and warm, but also very well seen on those dark nights.

I find "normal" t-shirts get uncomfortable when I get hot and sweaty and/or when it rains.

Oh, and a thin hat for winter too - I always said I would never use one but when I did my last marathon I did, and it was amazing how much difference it meant to my body temperature and overall comfort. Just a thin fleecy beanie will do.

Thanks for the info Hypno. Not too sure about me in Lycra leggings  But the breathable/drip type fabrics sound sensible, as does the windproof jacket.

Just had a quick look at Runners World too thanks.

Hi Se, and sorry to but in but...

I wear almost exactly what Hypno wears except that I also have running fleece top (for when it is really cold). I find that for most of the winter a breadable top and a cotton t-shirt on top is the best - but only cotton t-shirt is not really nice.

And do get some leggings - I have a large collection of them and am not really elf-like. You need support when you run - I also have compression socks and they are great. Main thing though - until I gave a damn about how I looked I never got out there running. Now I don't - in the summer I run in shorts...

Runners are very 'hard core' as a friend of mine often tells me - we can be rather disreputable. But this is part of the fun...

    Thanks Firewalker for the info.

I'm currently trying to 'improve' the outer me and wardrobe, which is the more emphasis on style too when asking the question, I'm not normally that vain.

Admittedly looking a bit better on the outside does help me with the self-confidence on the inside, especially when trying new things and challenges, every little helps. But maybe with the running, it's got to be a case of the balance going more to the function and less to the 'form'.

OK just had a look at GNR photo's on the BBC website, leggings are apparently the uniform, I'd look weirder wearing something different!! So leggings now on the shopping list.
