Erm ... No, no and no. Hypno's a great motivator and I love her ideas but I live in a flat and my neighbours will think there is an earthquake if i start Shredding! And as for the sprouts - my mum used make curry with them! Not for me though!

Oh dear Keeping Motivated! I do know just how you feel
Perhaps rather than trying to 'keep up' (because it really isn't a competition) you could just carry on with your normal life and maybe just set yourself 5 mins a day, or maybe 15 at the weekend, to have a think about the challenges? Buffy's idea of putting the challenges in a word document is a good one too! :T
I must confess to not doing the challenges exactly as they're written either. Sometimes I just don't DO being told what to do :rotfl: What I am trying to do is *think* about the general gist of them as I'm just walking to somewhere, or before I go to sleep or whatever, rather than writing anything down (because I know if I sit down to write I just won't have the right pen, or the right notebook, or whatever, and it'll never get done).
And also, the motivation and energy on here, in various people's threads, is generally enough to motivate me to do all kinds of things! (Like, er, re-lining my living room curtains - how's that for developing a business plan?? :rotfl:)
I don't *need* to start a new business now, or change my life in a dramatic way. I'm pootling along just fine. However, it's very cheery being inspired by others finding all kinds of new things in their lives.
And, I don't mean to sound sacriligeous (goodness, can't even spell it but you know what I mean!), but if you're feeling overwhelmed by the challenges and what everyone else is doing, you could always give yourself permission to not read about them for a while?? You know, in the spirit of only letting things in through your eyes and ears (books, radio, tv, forums...) that make you feel *better*, not worse? You need to feel motivated, not inadequate, and if that's not where you need to be right now, then spread out your picnic blanket in a gentle little restful place under a tree somewhere, and fill your head with a bit of peace and quiet for the time being
Anyway, enough waffling, and I hope you take it in the spirit it's meantNone of these challenges are there for us to beat ourselves about the head with! I find 'take what you like and leave the rest' to be a useful phrase in these situations - if what's useful is the cheeriness and enthusiasm of everyone, then take that on board, and leave out the specific challenges!

What a lovely post Cheery. I agree completely - when a fellow diarist has a burst of energy you can feel inadequate! I use these threads for ideas and motivation to do the things that will help me move on a little. Sometimes you are not in the right place for big or rapid change but all of those small MSE/old style etc steps we have been taking are making a change to our lives. Don't forget how far you have come .

Fab Post, cheery daff :T
Not doing things is perfectly allowable - if you CHOOSE not to do them. If you have made a conscious decision not to do something, and there is a beneficial reason to you NOT doing it, then that is fine, because you have taken control, made a beneficial decision, and done something positive by not doing whatever it is you have chosen not to do!
And, as said above, it is not a competition. You have to do what is right for you!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I'll say it again, as Flylady says "You are not behind, just jump in where you are!"
I too don't feel the need to start a business or make radical changes and don't feel it's about that. I haven't really done much writing as I've had other priorities, but I have really been lifted by just READING the challenges and also Memorygirl's progress. I started reading her diary just before Mr Big contacted her. It was purely by fluke as I tend to only read the ones I subscribe to, but decided to "break out" that day. She has a great attitude and it's been lovely to watch this unfold for her.
But she was pushing for change in her life and was working towards it. I think what I'm taking from her diary and the challenges, is that it's all there for the taking - whatever we want in life - for us all.
IF we want it.
Let's just go along for the ride, read the blog and take from it what is relevant for our own particular story. Even if it means that you spend 5 minutes looking at a plastic bag dancing in the wind or kick off your socks and run in the sea like Lucielle did the other day - then it's been worth the read0 -
Bit more info on how linked in works, or how I think it works!
Basically you input an abridged cv, for people to find you on searches is they're looking for people with your skills, they look for specific companies or for keywords, so you need to put the 'in' keywords' in your cv to get the best hit rate for people who don't know e.g. recruiters or people looking for short term contracts etc..
If you google linkedin optimisation, there are lots of links with tips.
There are quite a lot of groups you can join, e.g. OH is a member of groups for current and ex-employers, you get notified when there's updates on peoples profiles or new members.
When you update your profile people on your network get notified, so best not to do it too often else it can act like spamming.
Hypno - not sure if it's allowed as don't know linked in rules, but you have 2 professions, the stockbroker & the alternative therapies, do you need 2 different personna's with different email addresses, as I assume the hypnotherapy wouldn't have that many overlaps with the stockbroking, and the cv could be confusing if you try to cover both, it also means you could concentrate on the specific networks depending on the emphasis you want to put on each of them at times, e.g. if you wanted to do hypnotherapy demonstrations or try motivational speaking type things.
Hope everyone has a good day0 -
Absolutely, the challenge for MG is to rebuild a very successful business. That isn't the case for everyone - for some it will be the kick they need to set up a new business, for others it will be the encouragement to ditch some of the negativity that they have been carrying for too long, and for others it will be about simply making the best of what you have available to you and enjoying life.
I'm not out there to set up a new business, I already have things bubbling along in the background that I can make more of, such as the download site and the therapy stuff, and of course, there is every possibility that I will do more with these as a result. But, as much as anything, for me, this is about simply making the best of myself in every situation, work, home, friends, and looking to the future with positivity rather than the crapness of months and years gone by.
Rather than looking at it as investing in a new business, I am looking at it as investing in a new me. And I am having fun doing so - if I happen then to get a bit of oomph in the money-making stakes, then so much the better, but it is not the be all and end all.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Se thank you for the info on linkedin.....I am going to sit and try and work my way through it this evening - I have set myself up on there as a start, and got a couple of contacts on last night, but need to work out how to make the most of it for me. As you say, there are overlaps and I need to make sure I don't just look messy!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. In the IT field networking is the way a lot of the jobs are recruited for, and it's seeming more the case in other fields too. OH was recommended to join linked in by a friend, it actually took a few months to gradually build up a good specialist network for his field, now he just asks new people he's working with if they're on linked in, if they are he asks if they want to be linked, if not he asks if they want to join. So it's more an insurance policy for the future to keep it maintained and updated with new contacts, especially in the current economic climate so there's not a 2 month lead time to build a network for jobhunting. It's also been nice when he's had friendly 'hello, what are you doing' emails when people are back in contact0
