Im having a lovely night - LO in bed, DD1 and OH at work until 10 its so peaceful.
Thanks on both counts.
Is DD1 the one that got her GCSE's on Tuesday? What does she do? Last year my eldest got her GCSE's and now works part time in a local shop and does NVQ during Playgroup time at the playgroup close to us and my now 16yo is just going to college - no work for her.
Just wondered if she was doing something similar to start her on the road in earning some money? I know you said she was going to college to do nursing, but it sounds as if she has a job too0 -

Thanks sm. She's just a bit scared. I'm hiding my fears from her, although she'll want to talk when the girls go to bed. I'll make sure she gets than decaf and biccieGood luck for tomorrow
MOTM I've just noticed that my earlier post was eaten by board gremlins - I'm sure everything's ok inside Lucy and even if there's more than one extra person on the way I'm sure everything will be fine for you all.
I think the talk of miscarriage and VTS has upset her the most. It wasn't needed. Maybe it's normal these days to mention it, but not in the tone of a headmistress to a naughty child. Tuesday is going to be a big day.0 -

MOTM - sorry to hear Lucy (and you!) had such a bad experience with the MW. She sounds horrible and very unprofessional. Please try not to worry, it could just be bloating. If there is more than one then I'm sure she'd be very happy once coming to terms with it.
The hop n pop came - it's fab. Thomas LOVED it! I'll post a piccy in a bit when DH has uploaded them. The best £30 I ever spent lol.
Remember me saying that T learnt to roll onto his front? Well he can't roll back again and he keeps rolling over in his cot (mainly in the early hours!) and getting stuck! I've put him in his sleeping bag tonight coz I got annoyed with him keep kicking his covers off and thought it might stop him rolling. I went downstairs to tell DH that I've put him in it then as I came back up I heard him shouting....I went in and he's face down on the far side of his cot with his arm hanging out the side. I've turned him back and he;s straight on to his side again aaargh. Any advice?? We had a bad night last night as he wouldn't go to sleep after waking up at 4am and I don't want a repeat tonight! We've got his seahorse playing which usually does the trick.
Delain - congrats and welcomeMummy to Thomas born April 27th 2010 8lb 5oz0 -
Luce - Landen has recently come out of the exact same thing, so it does pass. Have you tried swaddling? From everything I've read and from Landen, I think at this age just give them what they seem to want. Its not attention seeking at this age imo, he needs something and it may be a cuddle and being able to smell you. I'd say tonight, take one of his blankets to bed with you, have it under your pillow etc and during the night your scent will transfer onto it, and you could try swaddling him with that/putting him in a swing/bouncer with it and see if it helps.... I've started taking one of the soft toys for Landen into bed with me to get my scent on it so he'll have a comforter to help him learn to self soothe later on.
MOTM - I had similar experiences with a stand-in midwife and a regular one, who i used to hate seeing. I even used to try and time going to the toilet at the clinic they ran, in case she was finished first and called me in next! If Lucy wont be seeing her again, all i think you can do is comfort her (which Im sure you are), and buoy her with the knowledge you wont have to see her again. if there is any chance however of seeing her again you can tell them you wont dont wish to be seen by her again, you dont even have to give the reasons if you dont want to.
She should be given a dating scan, as well as the norm 12 week scan, which will help with the due date etc. Did the midwife measure Lucy at all, otherwise I cant see how she can say she's big for 9 weeks? Quite a lot of women get a bit of a paunch going on in the early weeks which then goes, and comes back again as more baby bump. Also if shes petite she is likely to show more quickly/earlier. I too am petite, and I went xmas shopping and was asked when i was due and said June and the woman went white because apparently I was HUGE (Yeah thanks love just what i wanted to hear)......
With any pregnancy there is a risk of miscarriage but she definitely hasnt helped Lucy if you feel she was alarmist in any way. There are ways to relay the information and unfortunately it sounds like shes one of those who have had the conversation so many times, they forget it will be "new" to someone else....
Give her hugs from all of us, and do yourselves a favour and stay away from googling any of it (my best advice), it'll only stress you both even more.
If she's really worried about any of the information, I'd recommend contacting the early pregnancy unit at your hospital and ask to come in to discuss the concerns. The one I went to in my old home town was really sweet, and they're more "adept" at handling sensitive topics/fears.....and they dont mind how long you're there for!
Best wishes for the twins tomorrow as well....
Landen is asleep...... and i'm still debating dream feeds........ im so scared to try! LOL.... I think hes cottoning on to the bedtime routine as well because he was much more engaged with his bath, and when i got him out, he was being quite still and relaxed and seemed to enjoy the sort of massage i was giving him, but i noticed he had like a rash but not really a rash rash, went across his chest and was just little raised bumps, wasnt red or anything and i tried the glass over it (had a moment of meningitis panic!) and it was fine on that count....
I'll check it again when he wakes and i change him tonight, but i just slapped some sudocreme on it and I didnt use any wash/lotion on him just in case it was that....Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
MOTM, the mw is talking b******t. At 9 weeks she won't be able to say what size the uterus is, it's still tucked under the pubic bone and will be till about 12 weeks. Even if Lucy is further on, it's still far too early for a mw to feel the uterus and comment on size.
If she was referring to bloating around the tummy, it's what happens in pregnancy. Your body bloats up in the first trimester, then you appear to loose weight before the 'bump' starts growing.
A scan at 10 weeks won't usually tell you if there has been VTS (which happens in something around 1 in 4 pregnancies) because it generally happens in the first weeks, most vanished twins are reabsorbed by 8 weeks. But again, until a lot further on in a pregnancy, there is no way to tell visually or by feel, how many a woman is carrying.0 -
Gill - I've seen a contraption that is two wedges of foam with a pice of material between the two to seperate that baby lays in, and it sort of hugs them, and would stop him rolling over......i'll see if i can find a link
ETA - Similar to this but flat along the bottom and nowhere near as scary looking

Gill, roll up two towels and shove them under the mattress down the sides. Voila, a wee nest that he shouldn't be able to roll in.0
