Mfd, if you are positive about the job then I would be tempted to do option A... With ephesis on option B... :)

MFD, that's hard. If the first interview was by the rec con, then the turn-down was probably by the company itself (as in, they sent your CV off to the company after interviewing you first), so sending in a CV directly isn't going to help as they've already rejected it once IYSWIM. However, there's a chance that that's not the way it played out and the rec con didn't 'sell' you properly to them by passing on information about your transferable skills & so on. If that was the case, then contacting them with a really solid covering letter MAY help, but you just may never know. I guess the thing to think is, other than your pride, is there anything to lose by contacting them? It probably won't get you anywhere but it also won't hurt...

  • Hmmm - Aless, the recruitment company will only put 3 people forward to an actual interview with the company and it appeared that the guy who interviewed me had free reign in who he put forward.

The job has only been placed with one recruitment company, so there are not different people vying to get their person in first IYSWIM.

The job has not been advertised and I only found out who the company was when I went to interview.

I guess it can't harm to send a CV in 'on spec' - unless of course they have seen my CV prior to the first interview...

As an employer would it pee you off that someone sent their CV in after they had 'already had a shot' or would it show initiative and a desire to work there?

    I have just voted for B & V :)

MFD - I have to agree with aless - it's got to be worth a shot *confused smiley*
ETA - here, it would be viewed as a 'initiative and a desire to work there' but I think you would have to mention that you have already applied via the recruitment agency. I fear that if this became apparent later, if could be seen as an unfair advantage *again, insert confused smiley*

MFD I say it can't hurt to send a cv and covering letter. I think I would be inclined to mention the recruitment co. though as if they have seen your cv already or realise some other way that you already went through them you wouldn't want to appear dishonest in any way by not mentioning it IYSWIM. I can't see how it would pee them off too much, and even if it does so what, you still haven't lost anything.

ETA, and sorry to hear you didn't get through with the agency.

That's what hubby thinks...says that it might show fighting spirit!

So an emailed CV and covering letter coming clean that I know about the job and I have been informed that I won't be invited to meet with the company but I am really keen and local and can offer them x, y and z.

Aw - thank you for your sympathy!! All I am thinking is how wrong the recruitment company is and how very dare they pass me over!!!

Exactly. Do they not know who you are!!

Go for it, sending your CV can only show initiative and yes you want to work at that particular company.

I detest recruitment companies, I have far distant memories of them. I am very lucky to be working in an industry where its who you know that counts. 15 years in work in 3 places, on the basis of:
Oh there's a job going?, Can i have it?, Certainly when do you want to start! I would not know where to start now, but I really shouldn't speak too soon, as apparently when i was off last week, we had some visitors who were potential buyers of the company . Not good, not good.
