was just ssent this and it made me laugh so i thought i would share! obviously MOTM and Bruno are not included in this :D

    THE MUM TEST

I was out walking with my 4-year-old daughter. She picked up something off of the ground and started to put it in her mouth.
I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that.
    'Why?' my daughter asked.
'Because it's been on the ground; you don't know where it's been, it's dirty,
And probably has germs,' I replied.
At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked,
'Mum, how do you know all this stuff? You are so smart.'
I was thinking quickly and replied, 'All mums know this stuff. It's on the Mum Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mum.'
We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information.
'Oh.....I get it!' she beamed, 'So if you don't pass the test you have to be the dad.'
'Exactly,' I replied with a big smile on my face.

When you're finished laughing, send this to a Mum.

susan i think that would be fine, i would possibly add something in about the use of drugs in labour, with Megan the MW and OH 'thought' i needed pain relief and gave me diamorphine. Every birth plan after i have stated no drugs unless i ask for them and have managed with gas and air alone.
I've added in that I have no particular plans to have anything. Round here they seem to be quite slow at giving stuff even if people ask - my friend thinks it's a malicious conspirasy to withold them.

How about having a back up but in a sealed envelope stapled to the birth plan, 'in case of emergency' type thing???
That's probably a good way of doing it but I'm still at a loss as to what to put.

Susan - preference for a spinal or a GA in case of an emergency c-section, I'd also sound them out about their feelings on natural caesarean, in a just in case kind of way - if I ever manage number 2 it would be one of my first questions as I felt so detached from Katie for quite a while. If a caesaren is necessary ask about follow up pain relief morphine was wonderful but it meant I lost Katies first 24 hours, I would have preferred something else.

Aww I feel bad now :( I'm sorry. If there's another big meet I will make sure I make that one.

Susan your birth plan sounds great. I'm not sure what to write about emergencies as like you say what happens will very much depend on what is happening IYSWIM.
  • Susan, I have nothing constructive to add but I will say that I am highly impressed with how much thought and preparation has gone into this. I knew from the start that because of my complicated medical history I would have to have a planned caesarian so had no need for such planning. I am in awe of you!
