I'm not sure what to put about emergencies. Last time I put in provision that preferences could be ignored in the event of an emergency but I feel that that just gave them carte blanche to ignore whatever they wanted. Last time of the 14 statements on my plan, seven were ignored. Of the seven which weren't, two were provision for circumstances which didn't arise, one was that OH would be present, one was about what pain relief I would consider and one was agreement to a standard procedure.Krystaltips wrote: »Do you have a back up plan in case of emergency?
Actually that reminds me, I haven't put in that I'm actually above average weight. How does this sound?Although I have no particular plans to use any drugs during labour and birth, please note that despite being thin, I am not below average weight as I am much taller than average.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Susan, sounds very thorough. If you're employing a doula, a large portion of their job would be to make sure your birth plan is adhered to as much as possible, so I would try and relax about it all a bit. Plus being at home generally decreases all forms of intervention and the "cascade", so that should help too.

Susan - what about having a second page as back up, that would only come out in the event of an emergency?Proud to be dealing with my debts

:rotfl: I love cunning little tests like that.Susan, I think it's a very comprehensive plan and that's a good thing. It reminds me a bit of when that band in the 80s had a part of their rider saying they needed a bowl of M&Ms with all the brown ones taken out - it wasn't because they were divas but because they had lots of complicated pyrotechnics on stage, and if the venue hadn't read their specifications closely enough to know to pull out the brown M&Ms they couldn't be trusted to have set up to the safety specifications.
I'm seriously considering York but am now wondering if right before Christmas is a bad time.
I've been thinking about my birth plan for three years (and writing some of the supporting information for almost as long).
Is there anything in particular that might make York a problem at that time of year? My brother used to live in York so depending on what it is, I might be able to ask him. (I think SM used to live in York too unless I just completely made that up.)Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

That's exactly why I want a doula and a homebirth.Susan, sounds very thorough. I want to take my birth plan to my booking appointment because that was the only appointment last time where the midwife had time for questions and discussion and wasn't rushed.
Good idea. Although I would hope in an actual real emergency they would just get on and do what is necessary rather than stopping to read my preferences. Is there anything particular I ought to write about emergencies?MadDogWoman wrote: »Susan - what about having a second page as back up, that would only come out in the event of an emergency?Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

susan i think that would be fine, i would possibly add something in about the use of drugs in labour, with Megan the MW and OH 'thought' i needed pain relief and gave me diamorphine. Every birth plan after i have stated no drugs unless i ask for them and have managed with gas and air alone.
How about having a back up but in a sealed envelope stapled to the birth plan, 'in case of emergency' type thing???What's for you won't go past you0 -

Not more than any other city, and I love the idea of seeing the Shambles all lit up and beautiful. But I was planning the middle-ish of December to get us back here in plenty of time for Christmas, and since my Very Best Friend's baby is due the end of November he'll either just be making or just have made his entrance to the world and I'm not sure I'd want to impose on her right then. Maybe January would be a better plan for us.
Edit: wht not include "please explain any changes to my plan to me, my husband or our doula"?Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

Sounds like a plan Sugar. I hear Leeds is good that time of year

I have some bad news
I can't make the meet tomorrow. I have been asked to make a cake short notice and I'm just not in the position to turn down £100. Sorry guys. And really sorry Hammy as it means I won't be able to bring your cupcakes. Hope you all have a lovely day though
