Becles...i hope you feel a bit better today too.

Thanks. I've stopped rushing to the loo, and I feel a bit better now.

Don't know if anyone remembers but we had problems with James and his schooling. Basically last September when he went into Year 6, he was way below average in everything, had no confidence that he could actually do the work, and it was a really battle for both the teacher and us to get him to actually do anything! He would write in baby sentences that didn't always make sense, and he refused to read any books at all.

He had SATS tests in May and the average the children are supposed to be at is Level 4. At the start of the year, the teacher thought he would really struggle to get 4's. We've put a hell of a lot of work in between us, and managed to get his confidence back and he has improved so much over the year.

Results are out today and I've just found out that he got level 5 in reading, a level 4 in writing and he just missed out on a level 5 in maths. Teacher is absolutely over the moon with him!

Chuffed to bits here and dead proud that he managed to turn things around and do so well. Still hasn't sunk in yet!

His teacher is really special and I can't thank her enough for what she has done for him. I've got a slip that came with his report for parents comments, so I'm going to write her a nice note on that saying thanks, and I've bought her a teacher from Oxfam Unwrapped.
Here I go again on my own....

That's brilliant Becles - well done to you and James for all your hard work. Hopefully he will take this lesson forward for the rest of his life and will know that if he puts his mind to something he can acheive it.

    Celebration tea tonight? xx

I finally (after living here for 6+ years) went and registered us at the Library.
 How have you lived for six years without the library?

I sent OH to register Alice at the library when she was about a month old.

What do people think of this complaint letter about Beenie's Housing Officer? Any suggestions for changes or does it sound okay? (Obviously I will change the names/address for the real ones but didn't want to post them on here.)
    Dear Sir

Re: Housing Officer visit to 27Cat Crescent on Wednesday 30th June 2010.

On the afternoon of Wednesday 30th June 2010 I was present at the above address when Mrs Housing Officer visited to do a sound test with regard to Miss Beenie Cat's ongoing noise complaint. There are a number of issues associated with the visit most of which I will detail in a letter to accompany Miss Cat's complaint however, I also have a complaint to make in my own right.

In the course of the test, it was necessary for Mrs Housing Officer to leave and enter the flat a number of times while we were listened for noise from various things being done in the neighbouring properties. On one such occasion she forgot to shut the door which meant that the noise of a dog barking somewhere outside drowned out any sound we would hear from next door. She then asked Miss Cat if she could hear anything to which Miss Cat responded that she couldn't because of the noise of the dog coming from outside. Mrs Housing Officer got up (I think to close the door) but as she did so she said something which included "shut that f***ing dog up" followed by a comment about shooting the dog.

It is totally inappropriate and unacceptable for someone working with members of the public to be swearing especially when they are in someone else's home and there are children (my three year old daughter and Miss Cat's baby) present. In my opinion someone who gets angry enough to swear in front of children in the course of her job over something so minor should not be in such a position.

I expect to receive a written apology from Mrs Housing Officer for having used such language in front of my daughter and suggest that it would be appropriate for Miss Cat to receive the same courtesy. I would also suggest that from now on someone other than Mrs Housing Officer should deal with Miss Cat's ongoing noise complaint.

    Yours faithfully,

    Mrs Susan C
