Salesshopper, lots of babies like to cluster feed in the evenings to tank themselves up for the night ahead. When my small one was a tiny one I just made sure I had a comfy chair, my laptop and a big bottle of water handy after dinner so when she woke up and wanted to be fed I could stay there as long as she needed.

For the wind, try massaging her tummy in a clockwise direction or lying her face down across your legs and massaging her back (always clockwise). Remember also that when they're that tiny, the only way they can burn off excess energy is from crying and they often choose the evening to do it.

  • hi salesshopper - I would concentrate on trying to get her wind up first. Are you winding her after a feed? Or during a feed? You can get Infacol which helps with wind - you just give a dropper before you start a feed and it helps.

Your boobs are never really 'empty' even though they may feel it, they just keep on producing (the really good, creamy stuff :D)

Stick with it, it can seem really demanding at the time but it does get easier and that teeny tiny stage will be over in a flash before you know it.

saleshopper - we had the same problem. I can highly recommend infacol if it is wind. Give it to her before every feed and stick with it coz it takes a few days to work. Also if it is colic then too much feeding can make it worse. It can be hard to distinguish between that and cluster feeding tho! When T had colic he would finish a feed and then want feeding 10 mind later coz he wanted the comfort of sucking so we would give him one of our little fingers (nail side down) instead. This would relax him enough to help him either trump or sleep lol

Thanks for the advice - I think she is just wanting to feed for comfort half the time at least - will try finger to put her off for a bit and if it continues I might get some infacol but will try clockwise winding for now.

Sorry haven't read back just going to jump in and share my relief.

That thread on the board about a 20month old who doesn't speak got me paying attention to how much El speaks/understands, the short answer is not a lot she has sounds like mamamam and dadadada (Dada is much more distinct than mama) and a noise which means Millie (Ai-yay) but nothing else. (I know its common for a 2nd child to take longer and they all develop at their own rate etc)

Anyway yesterday she said Lady (the cats name) and today I said to her do you want a yoghurt and she went to the fridge so I'm feeling much relief.

  • Hi Millie's Mum

Think we're in the same boat, I was worried about H's lack of speech, she makes mumumum dadada but not in relation to anything. I plucked up the courage to talk to the Health visitor about it and the next day she asked to do 'row row boat'! Still not sure exactly what she understands, but I think she takes in more than I appreciate, she's just too stubborn to respond (like her mum!)

Thanks for the help MFD and SS, letter has been posted, don't think I'll get far but I am contemplating parking right at the entrance to the garage with a banner on my car saying...

'Bought this here in February, Cam Belt went in April, Head Gasket in June after 1600 miles, don't buy from here'.

Do you think they might refund me then?
