Great news Ruth - and what a talented doggie he is, with his own blog, LOL! Seriously, I'm glad he's home and on the mend, and hopefully has learned his lesson.

Steph - how's it going, hun?

Jasper - you naughty boy! Nice blog, need a picture gallery though - unless I just couldn't see it x

Phone in sick, good idea.. although use the time wisely to sort things out and move on. Don't dwell on it, you can't change the debt or your parents silly attitude towards it x

    Dear all,

Thanks for your good wishes - makes me feel SOOO much better!

Alas - he's a man. They never learn...;)

This morning, he got up once, drank a bowl and a half of water and went back to sleep.

He'll have a good black-eye to show off. If past experience is anything to go by, he'll just use it to impress the laydeez in the park (current favourite - Candy the chocolate Labrabor) A rogue, if ever there was one... Actually, his f4rts are becoming overwhelming - but I'm trying to overlook them, as I'm so relieved just to see him back again. Another couple of hours though, and I may have to get a cork and a hammer...:D

Any word on the 'phone call, Stephy? Still sending lots of positive vibes your way. xx

    Morning all.

Thank you all SO much for your love and your support. I'm incredibly sorry to have hijacked Stephy's thread with Jasper-troubles; I was just in such a state. Jasper was found by a cyclist just over an hour ago. He's a bit battered, but OK. I've had him checked by the vet and he's going to be fine.

Great news!! :j I'm so glad for you both!

Stephy, glad to hear you're bearing up. We're all behind you! :)

So glad he's been found :) I was thinking of you this morning :)
well i rang my parents and to be honest it was completely bizarre. it wasnt mentioned once, chatted to mum about my uni timetable, chatted to dad about his new car being delivered. they were very nice to me. i have a feeling its going to become one of those big massive elephants in the room, never mentioned again, but always there.
yeah i'm lucky that one of my managers is really understanding. i'm usually really reliable, never late or hungover like everyone else so i think they know i'm not taking the mick out of them. shes done my rota so that i'm not in till wed now which is nice of her.
this morning i was a shaking mess again but after speaking to them i felt so much better, i guess they have calmed down like you all told me they would!!!

Am I the only one leaky eyed that Jasper is home safe and sound? So pleased for you Ruth :T

Aww, thanks SO much. So glad I stumbled across this thread - don't think I'd have got through last night without you guys.:T

Jazz has just eaten his dinner and had another long drink, though he's still very tired. His eyes + eyelids are incredibly scratched and sore (vet thinks he was running through cornfields most of last night, trying to get home). I keep bathing them & putting in drops from the vet. I was going to give him a good talking-to, but he's got a grass seed or something up one of his nostrils which is driving him nuts - I feel that's punishment enough...! I think it might affect his performance in the pub quiz tomorrow night though (He's good on the meat-based questions), will have to see...;)

Thanks for the update on the 'phone call Stephy; glad it wasn't as stressful as you'd feared. It all sounds a bit par for the course, quite similar with my parents too; they've had their big 'explosion' on the matter, realised they possibly went a bit too far  and are now pretending it never happened, 'cause that's easier than apologising for the hurtful things they said.

There are SO many elephants in the room when I speak with my parents that I half expect an Animal Planet camera crew to show up - with David Attenborough whispering from behind the sofa...:) Pity they aren't actual elephants - the manure would be brilliant for my roses... :D

When the air has cooled a little, it may still be worth gently letting them know that their words left you incredibly distressed. (Though that's entirely up to you). I know that if I had yelled at my parents that they were giving me a heart attack, they would definitely tell me that they'd prefer it if I didn't say that sort of thing in future.

I know they're your parents and all that - but you really shouldn't have to endure behaviour on that scale every time you ring them up with some bad news...:)

I am fiercly independant, and that is why i left home at 19. i was 19 years old and i went to work at a company that all my family work at, i was pretty much forced into it and told that i would like it because its great pay, and it was for my age. it might sound ridiculous but i get more of a buzz from waitressing part time, when someone tells me that i have made their experience enjoyable, i love that, i've made them happy. anyway so i left the awful job after 2 years and went into full time waitressing because i loved it and i got promoted to manager. and i guess thats where the problems started, my decisions were always influenced by what they would say. my sister always said to me to just do it, i'm 22 and its my own life and they will just have to deal with it. shes right and so are all of u, it just breaks my heart to heart my mum crying down the phone

Wow Stephy, Certain members of your family sound like they already have a degree in control and emotional blackmail.

    Look at you.
You're 22, you've made mistakes and already dealing with them. You have an idea of what works for you jobs wise and are going for it. You have an emotional support network - your boyfriend and sister. Your mistake was not to love the family job they had lined up for you - shame on you.

You can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs, like you can't go to uni without building up a few debts. Yes, they come from another era where you didn't have debts at all or you brought complete shame on the family. I think you'll find since Access 'your flexible friend' arrived and university grants were removed the world is a slightly different place.

I'm sure you love your dad but he really has got emotional blackmail down to a fine art. He is going to have to work at not having a heart attack every time someone in the family tells him something he doesn't want to hear.

Steph, it's your life....enjoy it. Take a firm line with your parents, stick to it and eventually they will have to get it.
