And is the friend not stabbing the OP in the back by selling (what im sure is) a thoughtful gift? Or indeed not stabbing all taxpayers in the back by not declaring their earnings?

    No and errr no.

and what if 65million people in the uk took this attitude? Why should the good support the bad?

What an excellent idea - might make the Westminster slime think again :)

Well apart from the fact that it's against E-Bay rules to buy items specifically to resell.....

I hadn't heard of that rule, and if it is an Ebay rule, its broken routinely. Lots of people buy things specifically to re-sell on Ebay. Although I take your point, some do it on a bigger scale than others.

OP, give her cash gifts, if she lists over 100 per mth, ebay will force her to become a business ~ so she must really have an eye for a bargain to be making the amount of money she claims, or she's exaggerating ~ perhaps because she k nows it gets a reaction.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

how do you know how much she is selling on ebay?

As with everything.. people only tell you how much they have made on x item, they dont tell you on the ones they lose out on....

she might be taking £100 or so on ebay a month, bout how much is she spending...

Why dont you tell your friend about this thread.... so she can see you are talking behind her back.... as lets face it, we are only getting one side of the story here.....

I must admit i have had present given to me,,,, and have sold htem a while later, either because i havent used them, or they just went to my taste... but that doesnt mean i think any less of the person who give them to me...

Friendship issues aside, all income should be declared to HMRC - it’s that straight forward. If that person is then not liable to tax then fine, if however they liable then it should be taxed at the appropriate rate.

Paying tax when it is due is not an option and is the reason that HMRC are taking a very uncompromising towards evasion.

    ...:rotfl:

Well actually i had some spare time to search and the OP did actually register as self employed to do mystery shopping:)

After reading the first post again i can not help but wonder what the real issue is, even going to the point that the person may be in breach of her tenancy agreement by storing things there, surely if you are only worried about the tax side of things this would not come into it.

Im guessing the OP knows how much the friend is making because he/she brags about it? i can only guess this because the OP states alot of friends are annoyed about it
