i think its a question of morals, if people are prepared to turn a blind eye to this then fine, the OP is not happy about it, report it to e bay then.
if i was in this situation i would either a) not buy anymore presents b) buy a cheaper second hand gift, cos this is what the "friend" is in fact doing. c) send some money.
Been away but now i am back!

Like the thread. so, here are my views:
    1. Your clearly jelous in some way shape or form. Even if my friend was doing something a little naughty i would probebly turn a blind eye in the understanding in todays time's everyone needs a few extra pennies. especially with children.
    2. I can only assume you know she sold the pressie you gave her by 'stalking her ebay' so to speak. I assume she didn't tell you, so do you look at her listings???
    3. I mystery shop and am registered as self employed. Do i declare the online surveys i do. Hell no! i'm not sitting for an hour answering stupid questions for £2 only to have 40p to HMRC
You lot may think this is tax evasion and yes, it may be but i think this is where your moral compas lies. Look at MP's expenses, the millions wasted by the NHS, my council spent 150k sending all staff a pen last xmas. It's a joke, while everyone else has to struggle.

Big businesses evade tax on a daily basis and there not chased becuase the simply fact is they are allowed to get away with it cos if they were chased they would simply move there compnay to another country. Much like many people have done who now have to pay 50% tax, they simply up and leave.

I don't make a lot. I work hard to make a few extra pennies so i can hopefully move out of my mums house before the age of 30. I sell a few bits on ebay and sometimes make a small profit but at then end of the day who cares?

If you spend all your life counting every single penny and pay up everything you owe then i would only consider it usless for not taking a small advantage over life and finance.

ever kept some money when given the incorrect change? been charged wrong for an item in a shop? god, if you find £1 coin on the floor you really should hand that in!!

Simply fact is you and your find have a different set of moral standards. If you cannot accept this explain to your friend and end the friendship with her.
I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!

A lot of stuff are rubbish in carboot sale, and if your friend finds that many bargains each month to sell on she must be really good spotting bargains. Say she lists 100 items a month, all different. Do you know how much time it takes to put them on ebay/ packaging them etc apart from the Sat/ Sun mornings she goes to carboot sale? As it works out, after what she spent & ebay/ paypal fees, her hourly wage probably is still under minimum wage.

So stop being jealous & be a friend.

I have to admit....I sometimes do this. If i've got a gift that I've never used (and probably am never going to) and I always recycle them. I always thank the person for their gift and smile and wait a while before I do though, dont want to hurt their feelings. I usually pass them on as gifts to other people (different circles of friends). I got a lovely smellies set from the bodyshop but I dont actually like that fragrance, so i'm either going to give it to works "bran tub" present at xmas or take it to a boot sale. If it was me i'd rather someone got use out of a gift i'd given them (even if it is cash by selling it on) than have it sit in a drawer gathering dust.

Hubby & me have been ebaying his DVD's he doesnt watch anymore, duplicates and ones he has on blu-ray and DVD and some of those were gifts.....any that dont sell on ebay are going to the boot sale.

All our friends are aware of what we do, and they're fine (infact I suspect i've had a few recycled presents but they've been nice and have been things that my friends thought I would like, so there has been thought and kindness put into it). Everyones watching the pennies at the moment, none of my friends and family seem to mind that i'm selling stuff (possibly ones they've given in the past).........actually a few have said "oooh if you're doing a boot sale I have X, Y & Z you can have if you want - if it sells go halfies".

Might just be me, but I dont see the problem.

If she is making a few hundred pounds a month, believe u me, the tax man will catch up with her eventually whether she is registered as a business or not. They're not idiots. If that happens and she's on any kind of benefits, they will be onto her as well. But why should u feel a need to report her? What right have u got to do that? She stores the stuff in her house, not yours. Think u'r being rather judgemental and unpleasant.

But agree totally with what people have said. If she sells a present u gave, its tough, u gave it as an unconditional gift. Its hers to do with as she pleases. U are equally free to decide to not buy any more gifts.

I just don't get it. I would never ever ever report my friend for doing something like this and to be honest I don't disagree with what she is doing at all. Everyone is trying to make ends meet these days and it winds me up when people get arsy over others trying to get a few extra pennies together. Talk about taking food off the kids table........

Now that that is out of my system - can't you just find it in your heart to look past this? If she is truly your friend then you really need to stop having these spiteful thoughts and just accept what she does.

and what if 65million people in the
uk took this attitude? Why should the good support the bad?

If everyone in the country took that attitude and we each didn't declare £100 of earnings a month, we'd all profit equally. That's the definitive win-win situation.
