I've sent a few Abuse reports off over the last couple of days, but the acknowledgements have stopped coming and the spam posts haven't been removed. Has something happened to the system?

(There's a busy spammer right now on the Savings & Investments board, 'Hazelwinter', has put 9 posts up and still going strong)

Another day. No change, no autoresponse, no removal of spam and no reply to this thread.

Did I just see tumbleweed blowing across the road?

There you go, a little patience was all that was needed.

Auto response seems to be down from 22 July, I've reported it but as its over the weekend its very unlikely anything will be done until tomorrow. The spammer you mentioned yesterday was banned yesterday so although auto response isn't working its not to say that reports aren't getting through.

I have plenty of patience, thanks, but hazelwinter seems to be the only one that's been acted on so far, and that was probably as a result of posting on here, not of the abuse form, so just being patient wouldn't have worked!

Others that come to mind off the top of my head are marastocks and Jillsmi (a very slight disadvantage of the 'form' system of reporting is that no 'sent' copy is retained in my email client, so I have to rely on my memory!). They aren't multiple spammers on the same scale as hazelwinter, so maybe haven't been reported so many times.

Both those users registered and spammed less than 48 hours ago! Are you sure you have plenty of patience? It is a weekend and I'm sure the abuse team must like to have a day off now and again.

In my opinion the amount of spam on the forums is quite low and dealt with in a timely manner.

This thread was posted in order to ask for feedback on how the new Abuse Report form was working.

I was, therefore, providing feedback on how the new Abuse Report form was working!

Especially as it appeared - almost certainly temporarily - to have ceased to do so........

Anyway, Edinburghlass has reported the problem, and I'm sure it will be sorted tomorrow.

I think there are some ongoing problems with the abuse@ mail system.

If a problem occurs during the week then I think it can be sorted PDQ.

If it happens at the weekend, then I think there is very limited cover from the people who can sort it?

    The impression I get anyway?

I'm sure Martin doesn't like it when the system brakes down either. Hopefully there will be some official comment in the morning, if not before.

  • Hi folks,

Thanks for the reports, we're aware of the issue now and we're looking into the cause. Hopefully we'll have it sorted quickly.

I noticed something very clever. When I send a feedback, an automated webby replies and the message goes to my username @ MoneySavingExpert Forums. Am pretty sure I don't have an email like that  but then eventually gets to my email :D
