Reporting Abuse - New Submission Form

I didn't see this thread until someone directed me to it this morning. As it happens I reported a spammer today and found the process so much simpler and quicker. I had complained previously about the old system, it just wasn't user friendly for those who didn't use Outlook especially.
This new method of reporting just works so much better. I hope it's here to stay.
Well done guys for listening to user points and finding a way to make things easier. :THerman - MP for all!0 -
Just found this thread, but was chuffed yesterday when I could report a spammer without having to copy and paste here and there!
Works fine for me, great idea!!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
The old system worked fine for me and I'm on hotmail, but this system seems to work fine too, although the categories are a bit confusing.
I clicked 'other' when reporting spam and got a feedback form. Now I realise that I should have clicked 'abuse'
A separate spam button would be useful for when you wish to report an individual spam post, or a serial spammer.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
One issue I have found is that by using the form, I don't get to keep a copy of the original report.
The automated reply is generic (apart from the unique number applied)
A copy of the original report is sometimes useful if the matter needs to be re-addressed at a later date.
Would it be possible to also include acopy of the report in the email reponse?
Or perhaps introduce a preference setting so that users can choose whether to report by email or the form?
(I know I could still report by email, but would now have to copy & paste that others were complaining about. This was never an issue for me as a click of the abuse button filled in the address & subject title to the email ... but now it goes direct to the form)

tell me about it, without a copy of it I've been unable to ask how dare if a report isn't being considered :rotfl::o
seriously, imo it's just fine as it is
That's what is so nice about this site, there are a so many different users with so many opinions.
I'm glad you are pleased with the revisions that the MSE team have introduced for you, but I would still like to see the one of the improvements I requested, one of which wouldn't even affect how you use the site. That is afterall what I believed this thread was for - to provide feedback on the new system by those who are currently trialling it.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'how dare', but I have previously been asked by the FT to further explain why I was reporting a particular post so that they could correctly address that concern.
I think there was some confusuion because the offending post had already been edited before they got to my report, but after several days, without the reminder of what the initial report was about it would have been difficult to remember."Now to trolling as a concept. .... when things don't go my way, so that was a post making fun of myself. Also I just added on that last bit purely for the purpose of bringing my ot post back in line with the topic and in no way intended to even comment on it because it isn't in my remit to do so.

I'd prefer if it the form could make it clear which post ID was being reported. At the moment the only inputs are name, email address, subject and message so as far as I can tell that's all that's been sent. I can imagine most people would think they need to provide a link to the post and may once submitting the form think they need to submit it again with a link. I don't think it's appropriate to expect people to look in the address bar to get assurance that the correct information is being included.0

I'm not sure how that would help, as the post ID isn't visible on screen in the first place, unless you look in the address bar or status bar.0

I hadn't realised that the new abuse form was a trial - I assumed everyone had it
I like it alot. I have used it several times and my concerns have always been addressed. To be honest, I don't need any feedback or automatic acknowledgement of my concern, I'm happy that if it's spam it's removed and if it isn't then that's up to the team to decide.
In the past I have pressed abuse but then it tries to open my outlook which I don't use and I have not bothered and just hoped that someone else would report the abuse/spam.
The only concern I have is that if spam (in particular posted in a thread) happens at a time when no abuse team member then the spammer's messages will stay up. I have noticed that spammers are now much more likely to add their spam to the end of threads (I think) due to the spam button which makes their threads invisible and I think it would be useful if there were a spam button on each individual post if this were possible.
