A & L migration to Santander

Looking at my other direct debits I cannot see any details of last payment dates/amounts so I hope they will all still get actioned correctly next month.
Hi.......... Well now its just 1 MONTH and 1 day since everything was working OK with A&L.
Today I can access all my account sections but on checking the DD's I see that one should have been paid out yesterday but hasn't so will have to get on to that tomorrow - ( am just about to go out for the rest of the day ) - previous DD's are not showing when they were last paid so will have to keep an eye on that.
WHEN all IS working OK I shall be closing this account and migrating myself to a decent bank - one which cares.
How can Santander get away with this sort of mess ?
It's not as though its only me who has had trouble - must be 100's now. What can we do apart from complaining to the Ombudsman ( which I have done but will take weeks to get anywhere )
I would dearly love to go back to the old Girobank or A&L what say you ?

DD's don't get paid on a weekend. If the normal date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday the DD will come out on the next working day.
Therefore your DD that was due out yesterday will come out tomorrow.
As for previous payment dates not showing, I found that as well after I got migrated.Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.0 -
I have been with A&L\Girobank for approx 35 years without a problem. Since the takeover by Santander I have been unable to access my joint current account for 4 weeks- it shows as unavailable on the internet. My A&L Savings a\c has been frozen so I cannot transfer money because my current a\c shows as unavailable. I have spent a fortune on phone calls ( one call I waited listening to the most awful music for over an hour before giving up). Every weekend they promise it will be fixed but it never is!I cannot transfer money as the account is internet based. The final straw was when I phoned their customer complaints department and asked them to transfer a small sum of money from my A&L Online Savings a\c as I was not sure if I had sufficient funds due to their ineptitude in sorting the problem and being unable transfer the money myself for that reason(there was no mention of a fee).I received a notification by post that 25 pounds had been deducted from my a\c:( as a transfer fee.I can't wait to get access to my a\c again so that I can move to another bank. No amount of incentives would make me want to join this bank after my experience of their treatment of their customers.0

I read today that Santander are poised to buy the RBS branch network in England and Wales
That's me moving my account to a Scottish Branch then0 -

You could just move to a local Natwest branch. Their online banking is almost exactly the same and many of their products are very similar.
In fact, if the RBS brand is forced out of England then I would imagine RBS in Scotland and Natwest in England would move even closer together - perhaps move to a situation like Halifax and Bank of Scotland.0 -

There are also good reports about the Coventry Building Society.
Personally I would avoid the Halifax and LloydsTSB (bad personal experience), I can't comment on NatWest but the reviews here tend to be OK to good
As I mentioned in an earlier post, First Direct is my 'top of the pops' at the moment, regardless of the £100 incentive, but I've got to wait a week or two to get the timing right and avoid any possibility of Santander messing up the transfer. (FD will pay if they mess up but I don't think I'll get anything except grief from Santander if it's their fault!)
Coventry is very good but only offer a limited service, e.g. no cheque book. (Or that was the case a year or so ago.)
I left NatWest to go to A&L because their branch banking is absolutely useless. They can't do anything except try to sell you products you don't want. Can't make a bill payment; won't accept a written instruction to make a transfer etc. etc. I asked at four adjacent branches of different banks and they all said they would 'fiddle the computer system' to meet my request for a one-off transfer, but NatWest didn't want to know and it nearly cost me a years ISA allowance.0 -

Thanks I did not realise that, however they offer to quote their web-site, 'A cheque service for those occasions when you need one.'
Any idea what this means?0 -

It means you can go to a branch (if you live in the W Midlands) and they will write the cheque for you and hand it over. I think they will also do it over the phone and post it to you. Either way, hardly 21st Century banking!0 -
I've been an A&L happy customer for many years.
Got a letter from Santander today telling me that I can get £100 if I switch to a Santander account, I thought this was strange so I phoned the number they supplied. The customer services advisor told me that the letter was sent to all A&L customers by mistake and my account will switch without getting the £100.
They will get a load of grief about this I'm sure0 -
I got the very same letter as Zandoni!
Santander are a pathetic excuse for a bank. I only happen to be with them because I liked the A&L online saver interest rate.
Which leads to my question.......
The offer on the A&L/Santander Online saver ends today (and the rate reverts to something pityful). Can I now get all my money out and the interest accurued, or will these smurfs force me to keep £1 in the account and wait until "Interest Day" (October 1st)?
Any suggestions appreciated (I can't wait to give this bank the finger...)
