Thanks Alexnikov!
Just read your earlier post about the motorway! Crikey hope you're recovered - a stiff drink needed indeed. longs car journeys after something like that are awful, you are on a knife edge the whole time - or at least I am. I used to do long journeys down to SW Wales in a dodgy car. I feel your pain.
hmm I like the suggestions of going for silver. Again he just steered me towards white gold, when really it doesn't matter to me - so i'll look for silver rings too now.
If it's from an antique shop/pawn shop - if it doesn't fit, can you take it to a jewellers to get it changed, or is that missing the point of the saving - is it expensive, not potentially do-able dependant on ring type..? If it doesn't fit should I just not buy it I mean.
There are a few nice shops around that specialise in silver and I've always loved Rennie Mackintosh work and admired the jewellery even if i never wear it!. Hmmm....I'm thinking start with a trip to Past Times and work from there...
Darn, I thought of another random question a bit like the above but have forgotten... it'll come, when i'm lying in bed at about 2am.
Guys, you are all genii !!
Keep the thoughts coming if you have any more...This is really helping me!! it's giving me alternative places to look for something and get ideas!!
I think my mantra will be what QoNMW said about what the ring MEANS.
x1 Credit Card down, 2 to go... and then there is the overdrafts...

I hope you find something you like wigsey and congrats on getting engaged, I wish my boyf would ask me, it feels like the next step and we've talked about, just waiting for him to ask, could be in for a long wait! Also I think it's about being true to yourself and not conforming, so what if one guy thinks things should be a certain way, who makes the rules? we make our own rules
(well i seem to make mine anyway)

re: 2nd hand rings i think that sounds a good idea. I know some people might feel a bit odd about it but i like that the ring would have had a past life with someone else.
Managed to make it out to the pub for a couple of hours but i've come home early as i'm too snotty (yuck! sorry!)0 -

I've never had to have it done (don't own any decent jewellery!) but I can't imagine that a simple resizing would be too difficult or expensive.
I love second hand stuff - especially books with inscriptions in themI think a second hand ring would be amazing, just imagine its past history...

Nice!
I now have a wonderful first impression of you, marzipanfish!! :-D
- Hope a night's sleep helps recovery.
QoNMW - it's all a bit surreal. It'll floor my friends. I'm so anti marriage from the point of view of social institution and social expectation (hence the long engagement), but still can't get my head around the fact that I'm engaged (when does one become engaged, from the moment we say yes, or from the moment we wear the ring?) - like you say, our rules!!
And just to put it in perspective, no down on one knee!!! He'd asked several times in the past and I'd always told him to !!!!!! off. It came up recently and I told him to ask again. he did, expecting a smart alec answer, and I just said 'yeah ok then'. wow. the romance of it all
Ok. Next to google antique and pawn shops....1 Credit Card down, 2 to go... and then there is the overdrafts...

oooh I didn't realise it censored that word! i didn't consider it rude! i don't mind but I don't want everyone thinking I told my OH to go away in no uncertain terms!
Will take note of censorship for future, and it's utterly understandable!!1 Credit Card down, 2 to go... and then there is the overdrafts...

I think silver is a wonderful metal, really girly and delicate.
It is all about what you want, what speaks to you. This is something you are going to have all your life, something you will likely pass on to your daughter.
It has to mean something to you. The cost doesn't really come into itRetail is the only therapy that works0 -
Ah I feel among kindred spirits!!
Too many of my acquaintances would twist and turn their noses up at second hand stuff, but i was brought up on it and tend to recycle everything i can.
Think I'm going to get more inspiration and tips from being on here!
Wageslave that is indeed a lovely sentiment and a lovely quote as quoted by QoNMW (i do hope you don't mind me shortening?? oops never gave it a thought....)

So here is my outfit for tomorrow: am posting now because I've got to be on a train to london at 5.47am! I've just painted my toe nails pink to go with the outfit:
All charity shop buys, hurrah, the dress is originally primark I picked it up for £2.95. The jumper is an old m&s one, it's actually size 16/18 but it's got quite a oversized quirky style and I plan to wear it for layering tomorrow, it will come off when it warms up, it cost me a very measly £1.99. The shoes are also originally primark and were a steal at £2. The pearls were picked up at a carboot somewhere along the line. I might put on a pair of white linen trousers or leggings just for layering because it might be nippy in the morning when I'm walking to the train station at 5.30am!
Right night everyone xx*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -
