Churned up about child going to school....

  • I know I'm going to get slated for this, but I just HAVE to know if anyones ever gone through what I'm going through

The "problem" is, my middle child is going to school for the first time on Monday. We relocated where we live now over 20 months ago, and she's been going to this brilliant little nursery (with her 2 year old brother) where everything is lovely and the staff are amazing...

For the past week I've not been able to sleep, it takes me until about 3am to go off, and then I'm awake again by five. I lie awake in bed worrying about her at school. I just don't want her to go. I know its silly but I'm worried about what if she gets out the school gates at playtime, and if she'll meet friends, and will she be picked on because she has red hair and glasses (although she is spectaculary pretty with the most amazing blue eyes). I'm worried about paedophiles, a terrorist attack because its a religious school, if I will fit in with the other mums in the playground, if she will like it, how she'll feel being separated from her little brother, how he'll cope without her.

When she finished at her private nursery on Friday I cried for hours. I couldn't pick her up as it was too final, so hubby had to do it. SHe came home and she cried over something and nothing but I knowits because she knows she not going back. The staff cried as well.

My husband thinks I'm being ridiculous, I'm dreading monday, I left buying her uniform until yesterday because I couldnt stomach it

I never felt like this with my first child. I feel really selfish because all I can think of is how I feel rather than what she must be thinking

Has anyone else gone through this or similar?

I was devastated when my youngest started school. I used to drive home crying every day ........... Then I managed to get a job at the school as a dinner lady and saw how happy she was. I spent lunch times walking round holding hands with lots of kids but never my own!!!! She was FAR to independent for that!! It's a natural process - you could be grieving for the past when you were everything to your child. Life is lovely for us now - look to the future, but my thoughts are with you over the next few weeks - it isn't easy I know........ but it does get better. You will still be the most important person to your child - they will just have many more friends.

  • right so far, red wine, pizza, cake, more red wine - my little girls fast asleep in her bed, she's REALLY excited, almost not making sense she was so excited bless her...keep sneaking in for a little peep, she looks so young and pretty

My 2 1/2 year old son has thrown a tantrum as he wants to go to school! He kicked the coffee table and bust his big toe nail which must really hurt, he is in bed with a big plaster on his foot and he's still wearing his glasses!

Tommorow when she wakes up she will be a big grown up school girl, her little uniform is neatly laid out on her dressing table, he PE kit and school bag packed, new coat, new shoes, new everything, new lifestyle for her from tommorow, I'm so PROUD of her already, I'll sob like a baby when she walks through that door!

Another thing is - all the mums at our school were lovely. Have a great time tomorrow - you will be fine, and your little girl will love school.

Sounds to me like she'll be fine - it's such an exciting time.

Luckily(ish) I'll be in work tomorrow when DS goes to nursery (DH is taking him) and I'm pretty good at leaving my "other life" behind when I'm at work, but I'll be ringing as soon as I can to find out how it went - I'll be on pins!!!

Make sure you let us all know how it goes tomorrow.

    Good luck ;)

And it looks like we made it once again

My youngest daughter is going up to middle school in 2 days time and I'm a bit upset about it. It's like she's not my baby anymore. I'm also worried she will get picked on but if she does the school has quite a good anti bullying policy. Her best friend has gone to a different middle school but her older sister is also there so at least she will know someone.

My eldest is starting school tomorrow andI am really dreading it!!! For the first couple of weeks he is only doing mornings so no different from preschool really but I know it is!!!
I have suffered from anxiety & panic attacks on and off for 4 years and I only get like it when I am really worrying about something and the last couple of days I have gotten really bad. I cant sleep - my mind races at bedtime then I wake up through the night with my heart racing. My mind is racing the whole time about things and I feel really panicky and sick!!!!! I KNOW its silly but uncontrolable. I am just hoping I dont have a fullonp anic attack taking him to schol in the morning cos I dont want him to be scared about going.

Good luck to all mummies (and daddies) who's Little Ones and bigger ones are starting nursery or school, moving up to middle or high school and even starting uni or college. Grab a big pack of tissues (9 packs of travel Kleenex for £1.00 in Poundland,:money: let's keep moneysaving) and you will be fine;).

I'm sure us mums worry about it more than the children do.
