  • I went to Alton Towers 2 weeks ago and couldn't have been happier with the whole thing.

Even though we were having to go against flow of traffic everyone always moved when they saw me in the wheelchair and even if I'd had to wait for them to go past I was still only queuing max of 3 mins on rides that had a 2 1/2 hour queue. I remember in Florida we had to use the normal entrance in the wheelchair which meant the queuing and they were hellish sharp turns and rude rude people. I think what Alton Towers have done is brilliant and every member of staff was so kind and accommodating.
Excuse my lack of punctuation I have no shift key.

My meds make me a bit loopy so sometimes I say things that make no sense or can't think of words

Not a discount but useful to know. We have just come back from Ireland travelling on Irish Ferries. DS has autism and can get a bit manic on the journey, although we always get the fast boat. I emailed them before and they marked us a having a disabled passenger and needing special assistance. When we checked in they asked what we needed, and put us on the boat first, meaning he had time to get used to it as it filled up around us, and we had choice of where to sit, which was great as it was really busy.

Does anyone know if (as a disabled person) - I am entitled to a free (UNBIASED) electrical wiring check on my house ?
    I am the owner/occupier.
I think that something is wrong (the main circuit breaker regularly trips) - and, if I just select someone at random from the yellow pages - they will no doubt concoct all sorts of (expensive) faults
    Who should I use ?

Contact your local council to see if they have a list of reputable firms - mine does. Also, if it is a minor fault, there may be a 'Care and Repair' service from the council that can fix it for a low cost.

Yes some do, I use a walking stick and stopped to get lunch at M&S FOOD on my way to hospital. A shop assistant came out and opened a till away from the rest with a lower counter and a blue badge sticker above it. Really appreciate the gesture as I just got out of the tube and had to stand up for a while as no one offered their seat. I don't like to be noticed much and create a fuss so kept quite but was shattered when I got to London bridge station. thank you to M&S FOOD staff at London bridge, really appreciated the gesture :T:T:T

I know it's hard to overcome your feelings, but as a seasoned London traveller, it's every man or woman for themselves! I am nearly always offered a seat, and if not, I ask someone sitting in the disabled seat as in "Could I possibly sit down please", and I thank them in a loud voice, profusely.

I get very tired standing for long periods, and DH finds it impossible, but like you, doesn't like to make a fuss, but once asked, people usually try to be helpful.

For anyone planning to go to a show, always contact the Box Office and ask if there is a discount for Disabled customers, and/or their carers, and carry some proof with you when you attend. Being disabled doesn't have to mean using a wheelchair, or stick, and a trip out for those with any disability can be the most wonderful tonic.

    xx

    Hi,

I use cruches and when in Primark in Manchester recently I was asked if I wanted to go straight to the front and pay.

I use a walking stick and have never had this happen to me in Oxford. In fact, after queuing for ages, it was my turn at the counter and I got told I'd gone to the wrong one and I couldn't pay there and pointed to another queue (the check out wasn't even visible!) which was clearly much longer than the one I'd been in. I explained I have mobility issues and was already in pain from standing still too long to reach this check out and as they had a till, I'd appreciate it if she'd let me pay there. She point blank refused and said "we are customer services" ....
